BI LUMINARY: WILLIAM H. INMON

Bill Inmon, often thought of as the "father of the data warehouse," has over twenty-eight years of experience in database technology management and data warehouse design. He is known globally for his seminars on developing data warehouses and has been a keynote speaker for every major computing association and many industry conferences, seminars, and tradeshows.

As an author, Bill has written about a variety of topics on the building, usage, and maintenance of the data warehouse and the Corporate Information Factory. More than 500 of his articles have been published in major computer journals such as Datamation, ComputerWorld, and Byte Magazine. Bill is currently a columnist with Data Management Review, and has been since its inception. He has published thirty-nine books; twenty-one have been book club selections with publishers such as Prentice-Hall, John Wiley, and QED. Translations of various books have been done in Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. Bill founded and took public a Silicon Valley company, Prism Solutions, in 1991. Prism Solutions became Ardent Software, which was recently acquired by Informix, a company that automates the process of building data warehouses. In 1995 Bill created Pine Cone Systems, now Ambeo, a Colorado company that began the concept of managing data warehouses for better performance and now also offers solutions to improve eBusiness management. He also consults with a large number of Fortune 1000 clients, offering data warehouse design and database management services. He has worked for American Management Systems Inc and Coopers & Lybrand. Recently Bill collaborated with Claudia Imhoff and others to develop the "Corporate Information Factory."

Bill received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Yale University, and his Master of Science degree in Computer Science from New Mexico State University. He makes his home in Colorado.
