Shaw's Supermarkets Implements JDA's pro/fusion

JDA Software Group Inc announced that West Bridgewater, Mass.-based Shaw's Supermarkets Inc, a $4.5 billion subsidiary of the U.K. supermarket giant J Sainsbury, is reporting important benefits since going live with pro/fusion, the recently released JDA Portfolio relational data mart.

Part of the Intactix "pro/" family of space management and assortment planning products, pro/fusion is enabling Shaw's to establish corporately generated store-specific planograms and identify product display and distribution gaps from warehouse-to-shelf to better satisfy customer demand.

By anchoring pro/fusion at the heart of its selection-to-shelf management solution, which also includes JDA's pro/space planogram application, Shaw's is now replenishing out-of-stock products faster to boost customer satisfaction and revenue opportunities.

According to Tom Rich, vice president and strategic process leader at Shaw's, the addition of pro/fusion was precipitated by the grocer's need to better control and track product assortments across its 170 Shaw's and Star Market stores with varying size and demographics.

Stated Rich, "Because we have stores ranging from 20,000 to 70,000 square feet from Bangor, Maine, to the suburbs of New York, we needed greater control over what was in each of these store's planograms, product-by-product.

"Pro/fusion, in conjunction with our item sales data, allows us to quickly identify if a product isn't on the shelf at a particular location and take appropriate action to ensure that the items our customers want are available."

Commented Peter Charness, JDA senior vice president of global marketing and chief product officer, "As the highly competitive nature of the grocery industry drives new store formats and diverse product assortments, Shaw's is committed to being the supermarket of choice by satisfying the diverse and changing needs of its customers.

"We are pleased that pro/fusion is enabling Shaw's to meet this pledge by supporting more timely and accurate product decisions that drive customer satisfaction while increasing revenue and profitability."

According to Rich, future plans for the supermarket chain include implementing pro/floor floorplanning software. "Eventually we intend to integrate pro/floor with the pro/fusion data mart. Our expectation is that pro/floor will significantly reduce the number of hours it takes to merchandise and re-merchandise our stores."

About pro/fusion

Pro/fusion serves as the state-of-the-art relational data mart for JDA Software Group's Intactix space and category management product line. By storing planogram, product and floorplan information in a single location, pro/fusion enables retailers to manage thousands of planograms and hundreds of store floorplans from a single data source.

Rather than performing the process of making changes to individual planograms or floorplans one at a time, changes are made and applied globally, leading to optimized productivity.
