Leading Edge R&D:

INFORMATION IMPACT INTL'S 9TH INFORMATION QUALITY CONFERENCE

The world's foremost authorities on information quality will gather in Baltimore, Maryland September 30 - October 4, 2001 for Information Quality Conference 2001, the industry's leading information quality conference which will be held at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland. The conference is organized by Information Impact International Inc, a leading information management and information quality improvement organization. The conference, with its theme "Cutting the HIGH Cost of low Quality Data," helps organizations in a belt-tightening economy learn how to reduce the costs of scrap and rework caused by poor quality information.

Information Quality Conference 2001 highlights include keynote presentations from two of the world's leading authorities on information quality practices:

"Data Quality is Not the Goal -- The Goal is Wisdom: Lessons (That Should Be) Learned from IT Failures" by Larry P. English, founder of Information Impact International, an internationally recognized speaker, teacher, consultant, and author in information and knowledge management and information quality improvement. Mr. English's methodology for information quality improvement -- Total Quality data Management (TQdM)-has been implemented in several organizations worldwide. English's book, "Improving Data Warehouse and Business Information Quality," has been widely acclaimed by quality consultants and practitioners alike and has been translated into Japanese. Featured in Quality Progress January 2000 issue as one of "21 Voices for the 21st Century," Mr. English, has provided consulting and education in nearly 30 countries on five continents.

"Data Issues Facing the Typical Enterprise" by Dr. Tom Redman, founder and president of Navesink Consulting Group, which helps organizations improve their data and information, thereby improving decision-making, increasing customer satisfaction and lowering cost. Dr. Redman, who established the AT&T Bell Laboratories Data Quality Lab in 1987, and led it until 1995, was among the first to recognize the need for high-quality data. He created the Applied Research Program that produced many of today's methods for improving data quality. Redman has authored three books, "Data Quality: The Field Guide," "Data Quality for the Information Age," and "Data Quality: Management and Technology."

"If we are to prevent the failure of future critical information initiatives, we need to examine the root causes of failures and apply process improvement techniques," English said. "The Information Quality Conference helps attendees learn how to apply quality management and control principles to information through case studies by organizations that have successfully implemented IQ processes as well as guidance from the leading experts in information quality management."

Real World Success Stories

The Information Quality Conference also includes real world success stories, including companies where data quality is one of the core business processes, and companies that apply Six Sigma quality principles to information: US Environmental Protection Agency, Reuters, T. Rowe Price, Aera Energy, Motorola and the US Department of Transportation, and more.

  • Montana Department of Corrections "Taking the First Steps in Information Quality: Then What?" by Lou Walters and Brett Van Voast.
