Quaker Oats Standardizes on Informatica Platform

Informatica Corporation, a leading provider of enterprise analytic software, announced that The Quaker Oats Company has standardized on the Informatica data integration platform to enhance its ability to quickly deliver data warehousing solutions that will in turn help improve the effectiveness of Quaker's entire organization.

Informatica PowerCenter and Informatica PowerConnect for Siebel will enable Quaker to directly integrate the vast amounts of data stored in its operational systems, including Siebel, for greater business insight and improved decision-making. Whereas Quaker previously developed custom-extract programs to access and analyze this information, the company will now use the Informatica solution to streamline and accelerate the process -- eliminating the need for time-consuming hand-coding.

"Quaker's goal is to deliver information into the hands of business users for analysis as quickly as possible," said Paul Sikora, senior manager of data warehousing at Quaker Oats. "We've chosen Informatica to get ourselves out of the custom-extract business in order to work faster and less expensively. We expect to achieve very rapid time-to-deployment, and anticipate that the resulting increase in our analytic capabilities will ultimately drive increased value for Quaker."

An extension to the Informatica PowerCenter architecture, Informatica PowerConnect for Siebel automatically captures the expressions of business logic and multi-level links stored in Siebel business components so they do not have to be rebuilt by hand. The software also automatically captures key metadata held in the Siebel business objects layer and in database catalog tables. The CRM data and metadata is then delivered to Informatica PowerCenter for transformation and loading into a data warehouse where it can be accessed by end-user business intelligence tools.

"Informatica PowerConnect for Siebel is just one of several PowerConnect offerings that enable high-performance data extraction from specific enterprise applications like SAP, PeopleSoft, Siebel, IBM MQSeries and DB2," said Bart Foster, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Informatica. "The ability of the Informatica platform to easily integrate data from these and a vast array of other operational sources -- including real-time EAI message streams -- is critical to providing customers with an up-to-the-minute, 360-degree view of their business."

The Quaker Oats Company, headquartered in Chicago, is an international marketer and manufacturer of grain-based foods and Gatorade thirst quencher. Its major food brands include: Quaker, Cap'n Crunch and Life cereals, Rice-A-Roni and Near East side dishes, Quaker Chewy granola bars, Quaker rice cakes and Fruit and Oatmeal bars and Aunt Jemima mixes and syrups.
