SuSE SHIPS SuSE LINUX ENTERPRISE SERVER 7

SuSE Linux, a international technology leader and provider of Open Source solutions, presented "SuSE Linux Enterprise Server" version 7, now based on the latest Linux kernel 2.4 and optimised for deployment in high-performance servers.

Apart from the operating system basis optimised for stability and security, SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 comprises all server services relevant in Linux, enabling the implementation of e-mail, Internet, and application services, as well as file and print services in heterogeneous networks (UNIX, Windows 9x/NT/2000, Novell Netware, MacOS).

Due to its powerful support of various hardware architectures and the extremely high degree of failsafety, SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 is the ideal medium for consolidating complex server structures; from department and Internet/intranet servers to application servers for mission-critical applications.

From the end of August, SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 will be available for AMD and Intel's 32-bit architecture (x86), Intel's 64-bit architecture (Itanium processor family), and IBM's mainframe platform S/390. Versions for IBM's iSeries, pSeries, and zSeries will follow in late autumn.

SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 is an open operating system platform with a uniform source code. Its scalability, from compact Intel servers to mainframes, is unmatched in the entire IT world. SuSE regularly informs users by e-mail and makes the respective patches, fixes, and updates available via FTP server.

Furthermore, the "SuSE Linux Enterprise Server Update Service" provides more convenience by sending all updates on CD, installation support for fixes and patches, and detailed documentation to subscribed users on a quarterly basis.

Available from Late August

"SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 for IA-32" will be available from late August on. It comprises three CDs, 600 pages of documentation, and 12 months of free maintenance. The price of EUR 650,- + VAT includes installation support for 30 days (for one computer).

The fee for the "SuSE Linux Enterprise Server Update Service" amounts to US$ 200.- + VAT per year (per computer). "SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 for IA-32" can be obtained directly from the manufacturer, from SuSE Business Partners, or from qualified software retailers.
