AnVil Informatics' Georges Grinstein Published

As reported by Morgan Kaufmann, AnVil Informatics Inc, an in silico drug discovery company, announced that Morgan Kaufmann Publishers has released Information Visualization in Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery, a book edited by AnVil's Chief Technologist, Dr. Georges Grinstein, as well as by two other influential figures in the field. The book unites data mining and data visualization principles and examines how these combined approaches can lead to increased efficiency and more valuable results.

"It is the first book to explore the fertile ground of uniting data mining and data visualization principles in a new set of knowledge discovery techniques," say publicists from Morgan Kaufmann. This book "introduces the concepts and components of visualization, details current efforts to include visualization and user interaction in data mining, and explores the potential for further synthesis of data mining algorithms and data visualization techniques. AnVil Informatics is built on a foundation of research and development in data mining and information visualization conducted by Dr. Grinstein during the past 10 years at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. In addition to being Chief Technologist and a scientific advisor to AnVil Informatics, Dr. Grinstein is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts Lowell and Co-Director of the Institute for Visualization and Perception Research. His research interests are in applied Computer Graphics with focus on the visualization of complex systems. Dr. Grinstein has over 50 research grants, numerous publications in journals and conferences, and has been the organizer or chair of national and international conferences and workshops in Computer Graphics, in Visualization, and in Data Mining. He is on the editorial boards of several journals in Computer Graphics and Data Mining, has been a member of ANSI and ISO, a NATO Expert, and a technology consultant for various government agencies.

Visual Analytics Aligns Core Management

Visual Analytics Inc (VAI) announced the appointment of David O'Connor as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The company also announced the appointment of Bennett McPhatter as Chief Operating Officer (COO). These new executive roles are part of VAI's effort to focus its resources on the rapidly growing and increasingly critical analytical market.

David O'Connor expands his role as president to include the responsibilities of CTO. Under Mr. O'Connor's leadership, VAI has developed a world-class link analysis system called VisuaLinks, which has had unprecedented growth in the analytical community.
