Torrent System for CNET Networks Chosen as 2001 MIMC Winner

Torrent Systems Inc announced that the scalable online reporting system developed by CNET Networks using Torrent's Orchestrate has been named winner of the 2001 MIMC Technology Award in the Data Management category. Held annually by the Massachusetts Interactive Media Council, the MIMC Awards recognize excellence in the creation of interactive media applications and products designed, produced or developed in New England. The MIMC Awards has been cited as one of the most prestigious awards competitions for New England's interactive industry, and one of the largest technology awards showcases in the country. This year's event was held on October 15th at the Boston Copley Place Marriot in Boston, MA.

"New England produces some of the most impressive interactive products and applications in the industry today," said Leslie Cushing, executive director of MIMC. "We are proud of all our winners for their excellent work. They are examples of why New England is on the cutting edge of the Internet industry."

Using Torrent's Orchestrate, an applications framework for scaling and analyzing massive volumes of data, CNET Networks built a core, integrated reporting system that encompassed its massive volumes of Web activity. The reporting system scales to handle more than twice the volume of activity data for which it was originally designed and store information for more than two billion events. In addition, Orchestrate provides a parallel software infrastructure that allows CNET applications to run on multiple processors and scale linearly, while providing analytic functions for data processing. Using Orchestrate, CNET programmers were able to develop the core reporting and analytic environment in just a two-month time frame.

"We are honored to win the highly-regarded MIMC Technology award for Data Management," said Tom Ebling, president and CEO of Torrent Systems. "This award highlights the power of Torrent's Orchestrate to seamlessly scale and analyze today's ever-growing data volumes."
