Financial Watch:

Briggs & Stratton Powered by Vertex Mobile Data Collection

Vertex Interactive Inc, a leading provider of supply chain execution and order fulfillment technologies, reported the first-phase completion of the previously announced implementation of its SAP, automated inventory management solution (UMDC) at Briggs & Stratton Corporation, the world's largest manufacturer of air-cooled gasoline engines for outdoor power equipment.

Vertex's UMDC solution in conjunction with ABAP-based SAP application logic will enable Briggs & Stratton Corporation to translate real time critical data from their SAP R/3 database to/from their radio frequency (RF) devices seamlessly. The solution allows users and developers to create transactions for mobile data terminals directly in SAP R/3 and supports connectivity to all major SAP R/3 applications including the Logistics Execution System (LES) in place at Briggs & Stratton Corporation.

"By using an ABAP-based solution we are able to integrate the business processes of the customer in a synchronous fashion with the SAP LES Module. This results in substantial savings in implementation time and money for the customer," stated Mike Kula, General Manager, SAP Practice, Vertex Interactive. "In addition, the even greater value that we provide is in the transfer of knowledge to the Enterprise users so that they can continue to develop and maintain their own system to meet their requirements, further enhancing cost reductions. We will provide additional support on an as needed basis," stated Kula.

With the first implementation complete at the Briggs & Stratton Corporation 320,000 square foot facility located in Menomonee Falls, WI, Vertex will be broadening the scope of the project and rolling out the solution in two additional facilities, by end of 2001.

Briggs & Stratton Corporation was looking for a partner with a proven process and track record that could support all major warehouse processes provided by the SAP Logistics Execution System and a solution that required no middleware; Vertex fit that requirement. "With Vertex's technical knowledge and their ability to deliver every aspect of the solution from application software and hardware to professional services and equipment integration, we were able to implement the system in an aggressive timeframe," commented Jim Smith, Business Process Team Leader of Briggs & Stratton Corporation.

"Vertex's solution provided us with an improved matrix for measuring warehouse operations and performance activities," commented Bill Harlow, Distribution Center Manager of Briggs & Stratton Corporation. "For instance, our fiscal year end -- June 2001 -- reported increased percentages in on-time customer deliveries from 93% to 98%, and inventory accuracy on customer shipments from 99.5% to 99.75%. Overall, we have increased throughput and productivity, have minimized errors, and are better able to serve our customers with actual information on orders, speed of delivery and value added services. We are continuously striving to improve our processes and enhance relationships with our customers and suppliers," Harlow added.

Vertex's UMDC enables the emulation of SAP GUI or character screens to RF devices and is designed as part of the SAP system, not a sub-system that has to be maintained separately. UMDC is compatible with SAP R/3 releases 3.0, 3.1, 4.0, 4.5 and 4.6 and offers SAP R/3 users unprecedented connections to most handheld and fixed mobile data communication terminal devices.

Coremetrics, a leading provider of data-driven business intelligence solutions and Watchfire, a provider of Website Management software and services, announced a partnership designed to improve Internet business results by linking online customer behavior to Website effectiveness. Under the terms of the agreement, Coremetrics and Watchfire will join forces to market and sell their complementary software and services to enable businesses to optimize their sites to improve visitor success and increase Web site ROI.

This strategic alliance will afford Fortune 2000 companies the ability to leverage analysis from Watchfire's Website Management software and Coremetrics' business intelligence solutions to better understand how website defects affect online customer success. The correlation between Website defects and customer disloyalty was demonstrated in a recent report from Jupiter Media Metrix, which showed that, for certain groups of users, a 10 percent decline in response time can lead to a 5 percent increase in abandonment rates.

"Companies who have invested heavily in the Internet channel are seeking ways to improve Internet channel performance," said Scott Kauffman, president and CEO of Coremetrics. "This strategic alliance offers tremendous value to our customers, as they can now understand the correlation between Website integrity and visitor behavior."

Due to growing cost-containment pressures, IT and ebusiness managers are intensely scrutinizing corporate investments in Websites. At the same time, managers are struggling to prioritize their Website investments based on expected rates of return. Coremetrics and Watchfire offer decision-makers analytical solutions for measuring the impact of website integrity on their business -- both in the aggregate and across customer segments -- thus enabling businesses to identify and prioritize the investments that are likely to yield the highest return.

"By understanding Website behavior, companies can better manage customer perception and their business' success," said Michael Weider, CEO of Watchfire. "We are very excited to be working with Coremetrics to offer companies a way to identify and analyze enterprise websites for problems that can negatively impact visitor success."

Watchfire's Website Management software and services help organizations optimize their ebusiness execution by mitigating corporate risk, enhancing Web team effectiveness and addressing the critical website issues that affect visitor success. Watchfire's comprehensive automated testing, analysis, and reporting solutions can help detect and manage issues on even the largest and most complex sites.
