DataFlux Co-founder to Speak at NCDM Winter Conference

DataFlux Corporation, a SAS Company and leader in the development of data quality and data integration solutions, announced today that Robert Brauer, founder, will be speaking at the upcoming NCDM Winter 2001 event. This National Center for Database Marketing event will be held December 9-11, 2001 at the Morial Convention Center, New Orleans, LA. Brauer will be speaking on the topic of data quality and its effect on corporations in today's data-intensive world. His presentation "Data Quality-Ensuring Future Success with Today's Information" will take place on December 10th at 1:45 pm. Brauer's session will educate attendants on the issue of data quality in today's data driven age and the impact bad data can have on their bottom line. He will discuss the reasons why poor data quality issues are so rampant and talk about the risks of such data. The audience will take a closer look at actual examples and learn why assessing data quality is imperative to the success of any data-driven organization. In conclusion, Brauer will review industry solutions and available technologies.

Brauer is a founder of DataFlux and has been a key member of several software development teams at Seer Technologies, the Bank of Montreal, and CS First Boston. At the Bank of Montreal, Brauer was responsible for automating the data extraction, scrubbing, and relationship-analysis process for enterprise-solution customer information system, which was subsequently nominated for the Smithsonian Award for Business Systems Innovation. Brauer is a graduate of Ohio State with a degree in Computer Science. In June of 2000, DataFlux was acquired by SAS Institute and today, the company remains a wholly owned subsidiary of SAS. Mr. Brauer is active in DataFlux research and strategic development.

Torrent Systems Announces Promotion of Shyam Mudambi

Torrent Systems Inc, a leading provider of software for scalable data warehousing and business intelligence, announced the appointment of Shyam Mudambi to vice president of engineering. In this role, Dr. Mudambi will lead Torrent engineering efforts and overall technology direction, and will work with sales, business development and marketing to ensure Torrent's products continue to meet the needs of its customers and markets.

Dr. Mudambi brings to Torrent over 18 years of research and development experience in parallel software and hardware technologies. From 1997 to 1999, Dr. Mudambi was a principal engineer responsible for the original development of Torrent's Orchestrate, an application framework for scaling and analyzing massive volumes of data, and in 2001 rejoined Torrent to direct development around Torrent's next major Orchestrate release.

Prior to rejoining Torrent, Dr. Mudambi was senior principal member and group leader for Verizon's E-businness Superpages.com server group where he led the design, development and deployment of the white pages directory service and personalization features of Superpages.com. He has conducted extensive research in parallel computing while employed at Argonne National Laboratory, Knox College, and the European Computing Industry Research Center (ECRC). Dr. Mudambi has also published extensively on topics in the area of parallel computing and has presented at numerous international conferences, including PARLE (Parallel Architectures and Languages).

Dr. Mudambi earned a BSc in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Bombay (India), an MS in Computer Science from the University of New Hampshire, and a PhD in Computer Science from Brandeis University.
