Applications:The UNC Chapel Hill Selects DataFlux SoftwareDataFlux Corporation, a SAS Company and a leader in the development of data management solutions that increase the accuracy and usability of enterprise-wide database assets, announced that the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill has acquired a site license for the use of data quality and data integration solutions by DataFlux. The University faculty and students will be using DataFlux solutions to cleanse, enhance, and integrate data on a wide variety of projects. The first department within the University to utilize the software will be the School of Social Work to track and analyze the impact of welfare reform on the people in North Carolina. The School of Social Work has constructed a number of large databases that track every family and individual that's been on cash assistance, which in North Carolina is called Work First, and the food stamp program. The University also provides data and analytical support to the counties since North Carolina is one of several states that has a state supervised, county administered welfare program. These databases, which track over 1.3 million individuals, are running on a dedicated Sun ES450 Unix server with a Windows NT front end. One of the challenges the department faced was how to standardize and link the various databases to track and follow individuals through those programs as well as the number of cases in particular counties. Dean Duncan, Clinical Associate Professor at The School of Social Work said, "We chose DataFlux and its solutions for standardizing and integrating data from a variety of internal and external data sources. For example, with the Work First program, we are tracking trends such as how many people have left the program, their involvement with other assistance programs, and how many people return to the program. In this case, the quality of incoming data is enhanced in order to provide more accurate results for reporting and analysis." Duncan continued, "DataFlux has an incredibly efficient product suite with a highly intuitive point-and-click interface. We have a lot of graduate students working on these projects and I think it's something that they'll learn and become very proficient at in a short period of time. We are looking forward to a significant return on investment with the DataFlux products." Tony Fisher, president of DataFlux said, "Our comprehensive suite of products is an ideal solution for any University environment. We have designed all of our solutions to be easily installed, integrated and operated by individual users without the need for on-going technical support. We look forward to seeing the many ways in which the faculty and students at UNC Chapel Hill will apply these tools." DataFlux provides flexible solutions that enable users to deal with unique data situations that can't be managed in a fixed application environment. DataFlux's end user-product, dfPower Studio, provides an entirely point-and-click driven, out-of-the-box software product suite for managing the quality, consistency and usability of critical data without the need for consultants to install, program or maintain the solution. With a user interface that remains the same regardless of the underlying operating system or database platform, dfPower Studio facilitates full end-user customization, enterprise-wide data integration and United States Postal Service (USPS) CASS (Coding Accuracy Support System) certification of data sets. A free trial version of dfPower Studio is available for download at www.dataflux.com/demozone.asp.
