Informatica PowerCenter 5 Increases Performance 500 PercentInformatica Corporation, a leading provider of enterprise analytic software, announced that the current release of its Informatica PowerCenter 5 data integration platform performs complex data mappings and aggregations more than five times faster than the platform's previous release. Conducted on HP Superdome servers, the recent tests also demonstrated Informatica PowerCenter's scalability as data volumes increase. "Once again, we have broken through already strong performance numbers to confirm that Informatica PowerCenter is exceedingly fast -- even when confronted with large data sets," said Joe Nicholson, Informatica vice president of marketing, platform technologies. "As the amount of data today keeps expanding and the real-time demand for information grows, Informatica PowerCenter continues to demonstrate its powerful capabilities for helping companies transform their data into actionable business insight." "The performance advances and linear scalability exhibited by the newest release of Informatica PowerCenter are impressive," said Mark Hudson, worldwide marketing manager of HP's Business Systems and Technology Organization. "Clearly, HP Superdome servers and the Informatica PowerCenter platform make a powerful pairing for companies that need to scale their data integration environment and maximize analytic capabilities in the face of today's and tomorrow's increasing flow of business data." Raising the Performance BarCompleted in December of 2001, the performance tests for the latest release of the Informatica PowerCenter platform were conducted on a 64-processor HP Superdome server with HP Surestore XP512 disk arrays. Based on third-party (TPC) decision-support queries that represent real-world scenarios, the results demonstrate significant performance gains over the previous release of Informatica PowerCenter tested in April of 2001. Three of the 22 queries in the industry-standard TPC-H test suite were run against a data set consisting of over 875 million rows. The complex data mappings were completed in less than 6 minutes -- over 500 percent faster than the 29 minutes taken by Informatica PowerCenter software in the earlier tests. (Note: These results are not intended to represent official TPC benchmark results.) Scaling Performance LinearlyInformatica PowerCenter also demonstrated the ability to scale its performance linearly, meaning that the time required to process larger data sets remained near constant by increasing the number of processors. Tests were conducted on an HP 9000 Superdome server in three different configurations. "This round of tests helped demonstrate that customers can scale their Informatica PowerCenter implementations from entry-level to high-performance servers, helping them gain the full computing power and economic value of each additional CPU," said Nicholson.
