WSI Energycast Europe, a Weather Service for Energy Traders

WSI Energycast Europe, a weather information service tailored specifically to provide a competitive advantage to European power and gas traders, is being launched by WSI. "Energycast brings the European gas and power trader earlier insight into the weather before the market moves," said Jim Menard, WSI's vice president of Energy and Meteorology.

WSI's Energycast Europe offers a comprehensive array of forecast information backed by WSI, one of the world's largest private weather information companies with offices in both Europe and North America. The service includes morning briefings to inform the traders of upcoming weather and potential market moving opportunities. In addition, a trader focused Web site is available to constantly update the energy trader with the latest weather information throughout the day.

"We work very hard to get the forecast right and get that information to the trader fast, knowing that every minute of advantage means real money. We feel this will be of particular value in Europe where weather data is notoriously more difficult to acquire," said Menard. WSI operates state of the art forecasting facilities in Birmingham, U.K., and Boston, Massachusetts, teams of experienced operational and research meteorologists utilize the latest numerical and statistical models to provide the most accurate and timely weather forecasts possible.

WSI's Energycast service for North America was launched in the Spring of 2000. The service gained considerable attention this winter when it forecast a warm winter in the eastern United States that directly contradicted the overwhelming opinion of a brutally cold winter in the eastern United States expressed by most forecast organizations. "Our North American operation has built a weather information service widely accepted by traders for its concise depiction, and early warning of weather which will impact the markets. Now it's time to extend this forecast service to Europe," said Leon Brown WSI's Manager of UK Meteorological Operations.

Sales information about Energycast Europe is available by calling Alan Baker, director of sales, for WSI Europe, at 44 (0) 121 233 7600. For information regarding WSI's North American services call John Bosse at 978-670-5105.
