Financial Watch:

Data Junction Lands KBtoys.com

Data Junction Corporation, developers of the world's most widely deployed data integration solutions, announces that K-B Toys, the company that operates KBtoys.com and eToys, has selected Data Junction for use in its Oracle data warehousing environment. KBtoys.com will use Data Junction products within a Sun Solaris operating environment to aggregate data from the entire organization into a single data warehouse, allowing decisions to be made more quickly and efficiently.

Because of the significant return on investment offered by Data Junction, KBtoys.com replaced its former well-known, more expensive data warehousing solution with Data Junction technology. And by leveraging Data Junction's Sun Solaris multi-threaded engine, KBtoys.com will greatly reduce run times by executing multiple conversions simultaneously.

The KBtoys.com technical team also conducted an extensive hands-on review of Data Junction solutions, examining functionality, features, cost and independent industry reports, concluding that Data Junction offered the best data warehousing technology and support resources on the market.

"We performed a full two-week evaluation of Data Junction solutions to make sure that they could meet the stringent demands of our current data warehousing environment. We were extremely pleased to find that Data Junction delivered dynamic, robust, feature-rich solutions, meeting and exceeding many of our expectations while offering us a very low total cost of ownership," said Greg Sitzman, Business Intelligence Manager at KBtoys.com.

KBtoys.com will integrate data from a myriad of systems and databases on an hourly and daily basis. Data Junction will provide additional benefits as an event-driven solution that delivers flexibility to prepare data for transformation.

Northrop Grumman to Manage Data Center for Texas DCJ

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) has selected Northrop Grumman Corporation to manage the department's data center operations, representing a further expansion of the company's information technology outsourcing services to state agencies. The six-year contract has a potential value of $33.8 million to Northrop Grumman's Information Technology sector.

The work will be performed at the West Texas Disaster Recovery and Operations Center (WTDROC) located on the campus of Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. The company currently manages the WTDROC under a contract with the Texas Department of Information Resources, and offers full data center outsourcing, disaster recovery, applications and desktop seat management services for state agencies, universities and local governments.

"The addition of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice will double the processing capacity of the WTDROC and is an important step in the center's growth," said Ed Serna, program manager, Northrop Grumman Information Technology. "As more state customers move their data center operations to the WTDROC, they will benefit from the greater efficiencies and capabilities generated by this advanced data center."

The TDCJ operates prisons and other state correctional facilities, the parole system and provides funding and certain oversight of community supervision, a function previously known as adult probation. It becomes the seventh Texas state agency to outsource its data center operations to the WTDROC.

In addition to TDCJ, Northrop Grumman provides data center outsourcing services at the WTDROC to the Texas Education Agency, the Texas Workers' Compensation Commission, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the Texas Mental Health and Retardation Department, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission and Angelo State University. The company also provides IT outsourcing services to the Texas Department of Human Services.
