Analysis & Commentary:HR-XML CONSORTIUM ANNOUNCES 2002 BOARD OF DIRECTORSThe HR-XML Consortium, a non-profit organization dedicated to human resources (HR) data exchange, recently held its third annual Board of Directors elections. Peter Stockhausen of Manpower Inc, will join eight returning directors to comprise the HR-XML Consortium's 2002 Board of Directors. Three board seats were up for election. HR-XML Consortium president, Lon Pilot of Watson Wyatt Worldwide, and Secretary of the Board, Cari Willis of IBM, were re-elected to two-year terms. "The Consortium welcomes Peter's depth of experience. His tangible knowledge of data networking and international staffing concerns will be invaluable as the Consortium proceeds with global protocols for human resources applications," said Chuck Allen, executive director of the HR-XML Consortium. "The talent that sits on the 2002 board is an impressive assembly of technical and business expertise. They will serve the Consortium well as it undertakes a year of several new schema applications and global outreach." Peter Stockhausen, CIO North America, Manpower Inc In 1997 Peter Stockhausen joined Manpower Inc as CIO and vice president of Information Technologies to undertake the deployment of a 2,000-site international corporate data network and a centralized network operations center and help desk. At this same time, he directed the implementation of new business systems and the development of various Web-based services. He has instituted an IT management infrastructure, a standard development life cycle, change management, regression testing and other essentials of a modern professional environment. Peter started his career performing operations research at Bell Telephone Laboratories. In the 20 years he spent with the Bell System and Ameritech, he held a variety of technical and management positions. Leaving Ameritech as Senior Director of Systems Development, he joined The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel as Vice President of Information Technologies where he built a modern IT environment;, installed state-of-the-art systems; implemented electronic publishing; and managed the corporate project of merging two metropolitan daily newspapers. The paper responded by electing Peter to the Board of Directors. With the telecommunications deregulation and the advent of competitive local exchange services, he returned to his telecom roots. He accepted a position with a St. Louis-based startup, Brooks Fiber Properties, as Vice President of Information Technologies and CIO. In this capacity his charge was to find, integrate and deploy telecom operations systems and establish the infrastructure and organizations to support and run them. In 1997 WorldCom acquired the company and Peter moved to Manpower. Peter has a B.S. from Marquette University, an M.S. from Stevens Institute of Technology, and has completed the Advanced Management Program from Harvard University and Duke University's Executive Management Program in Telecommunications. Among his professional activities, Peter is a former president of the Wisconsin chapter of the Society for Information Management. Mr. Baker joined Hire.com in 2000, with the acquisition of Advanced Recruiting Technologies, Inc.'s sourcing business, where he served as founder and CEO. Prior to Advanced Recruiting Technologies Inc, Mr. Baker served as president of Reticular Systems Inc, a knowledge management company, where he continues to serve on the Board of Directors. He has also served as president and CEO of Template Graphics Software Inc, and Group Marketing Manager for Computer Associates International Inc. Mr. Baker is a well-known speaker at industry events including the e-HR Conference and the International Quality & Productivity Center Seminars for Human Resources. Timothy Farlow, Director of Technology, Authoria, Waltham, Massachusetts With 17 years of enterprise software development experience for both product and consulting organizations, Tim Farlow has worked since 1997 in multiple product management and development roles for Authoria, the market leader in HR knowledge-base applications for large corporations. Mr. Farlow is a co-author of the HR-XML Consortium's PersonName and PostalAddress standards, leads the Cross-Process Objects Work Group, and is a member of the Business Steering Committee. He has contributed to standards development at the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and the Enterprise Computer Telephony Forum (ECTF). Mr. Farlow is the author of multiple software patents, a teacher of software and digital electronics, and a regular speaker at HR industry trade shows and user groups. He holds a B.A. in Computer Science from Harvard University. William Kerr, Principal Software Engineer, Oracle HRMS Development, Reading, England Over the past 15 years, Bill Kerr has been involved in several roles for the software industry, including technical director. Since 1998, Mr. Kerr has evangelized XML technology within HRD at Oracle HRMS Development (HRD). Oracle Corporation is a leading supplier of software for information management, and the world's second largest independent software company. At Oracle, Mr. Kerr also co-chairs a group that brings new technology to the attention of senior management within HRD. Additionally, he represents Oracle and HRD within a number of government initiatives that involve XML. Some of those initiatives include the U.K. GovTalk Payroll Steering Committee (payroll year-end and other statutory filings); the U.S. Government's STAWRS COTS SPEF (Simplified Tax and Wage Reporting System -- Commercial Off The Shelf Single Point Electronic Filing); and the TIGERS group (Tax Information Group for EC Requirements Standardization). Mr. Kerr chairs the HR-XML Consortium's Technical Steering Committee, a group that provides the Consortium technical leadership and oversight review for all Consortium work groups and projects. Bruce Kile, senior vice president Implementation and Client Services, Peopleclick, Dallas, Texas With 18 years of human resources management and technology experience, Bruce Kile has implemented human resource planning software that focuses on recruiting, career development, succession planning, and training. Peopleclick is a market leader of Web-based recruiting and affirmative action services. In this role, Mr. Kile manages the implementation and consulting services for Peopleclick products. Prior to joining Peopleclick in November 2000, Mr. Kile served as vice president, Client Services, for Criterion prior to its acquisition by Peopleclick. Prior to his current position, Mr. Kile led implementations at Criterion, as well as quality assurance and support services. Prior to joining Criterion/Peopleclick, Mr. Kile was employed by Atlantic Richfield Corporation where, among other job responsibilities, he worked on industry interface initiatives and financial implementations. Mr. Kile has spoken at industry conferences and has sat on industry boards, including the board of directors for the ARCO Credit Union. Dr. Srdjan Kovacevic, Chief Technologist, SCS Lab, Foster City, California With over 15 years of combined experience in key architecture roles in the software industry, applied research, academia, standards and professional organizations, Srdjan Kovacevic contributes a lifetime of technical and managerial expertise to standards, bodies and applications modeling. At SCS Lab, he leads creation of intelligent tools and consults in the technology strategy, system architectures, and emerging Web and HR technologies. Previously, as the Chief Technology Strategist at Icarian, he led advanced modeling efforts in the workforce management domain. Prior to Icarian, Dr. Kovacevic was a principal scientist at Aonix, where he explored new ways to utilize model-driven and component-based development technology and to maximize benefits of modeling tools in software development. Before joining Aonix, Dr. Kovacevic was at US WEST Advanced Technologies, where he applied model-based technology to user interface design, data browsing environments, intelligent tutoring systems, electronic commerce and Web applications. Previously, Dr. Kovacevic was a visiting researcher at Georgia Tech's GVU Center. Dr. Kovacevic has been active on program and organizing committees of several international workshops and conferences, has published numerous papers and holds several patents. Linda le Grand, Senior Manager, Randstad Corporate ICT Office Diemen, the Netherlands With more than 15 years of knowledge of contemporary information and technology trends, HR classification and information technology, Linda le Grand is a Senior Manager for Randstad Corporate ICT Office, a division of Randstad Holding. Ms. le Grand is credited with many industry innovations, including the design and development of data warehousing systems, management information tools, and back and front office systems. Lon Pilot is a systems consultant in the e-HR practice of Watson Wyatt Worldwide, specializing in the design and implementation of Internet and intranet-based human resources systems. Lon has been a proponent of the use of XML within the HR realm for the past three years, and was involved in the design of Watson Wyatt Worldwide's first XML-based HR interface. Lon graduated from the University of Delaware in May 1996. He has worked for Watson Wyatt Worldwide since September 1996. Before joining Watson Wyatt Worldwide, Lon worked for the College of Education at the University of Delaware in a technical support role from December 1995 through August 1996. He also worked as a hardware and software developer for Kernel Productions, a Macintosh gaming hardware and software development company, from August 1994 through August 1996. Mr. Pilot is president of the HR-XML Consortium, an elected post. He received his B.S. in computer science from the University of Delaware. Cari Willis, Manager, ES e-Business Service Delivery Support, IBM, Raleigh, North Carolina Cari Willis is Manager, ES e-Business Service Delivery Support at IBM and is the Secretary for the Board of Directors for the HR-XML Consortium. Cari was an Information Development manager for various networking products for IBM's Software Group division. She has also been a Human Factors Engineer for various internal and external products for IBM. Cari is a frequent presenter at industry conferences on HR self-service, corporate portals and shared services. She graduated from the University of Arkansas with a BS in psychology.
