Bureau of Land Management Deploys Brio to 7,000+ Employees

Brio Software, a leading provider of next-generation business intelligence tools and applications that help Global 3000 companies achieve breakthrough business performance, announced that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has deployed Brio as the business intelligence standard for its data warehousing initiative. With Brio's software, the BLM can closely track its budget and expenditures, while measuring the performance of key programs against established goals and metrics, as required by the Government Performance and Results Act. More than 7,000 staff members use Brio's software across the organization, which has led to dramatic improvements in overall efficiency and productivity. In the first year alone, the BLM estimates it saved more than $1.6 million in labor costs.

"Brio has helped us replace an unwieldy system of printed quarterly reports that took six weeks or more to prepare, print and distribute," said Lester Knutsen, president, Advanced DataTools Corporation, an IT contractor to the BLM. "The new system shortened information and report delivery from 45 days to overnight."

Advanced DataTools began working with the BLM in 1997 to develop a data warehouse that would allow it to better track its funding and management expenditures. The BLM asked the company to evaluate a number of business intelligence tools to find one that would allow employees to run their own queries and to update financial reports from the field offices without any IT training. Working with Advanced DataTools, the BLM was able to deploy its data warehouse in two months.

The Bureau of Land Management data warehouse, accessed by Brio, is updated daily and populated with more than 70 million rows of data annually. By providing a single point of access to information stored in finance, budget, procurement and other business systems, Brio enables their data warehouse to connect all the field offices with the company headquarters, allowing them to access the same timely information. Brio also makes it possible for users at any level, typically with no programming skills, to run ad-hoc queries and to generate reports in a variety of different formats. In addition, the BLM can now meet the federal government mandate to monitor performance against goals by integrating all information sources. Brio's easy-to-use software delivers both user flexibility and data security.
