Accelrys Expands Offerings Optimized for IBM Servers

Accelrys Inc announced the commercial availability of five additional Accelrys software applications on IBM eServer pSeries systems running AIX. This is the second group of product releases resulting from the global strategic alliance between IBM and Accelrys that was announced in January of this year. The alliance seeks to enhance drug research and development (R&D) operations by creating a collaborative information technology environment to help chemists and biologists develop new drugs faster, more efficiently, and at lower costs.

"This new milestone reflects the commitment and aggressive timetable IBM and Accelrys have set to deliver innovative information technologies through our alliance," said Mike Svinte, vice president of Worldwide Business Development, IBM Life Sciences. "We have now enabled ten of Accelrys' leading life sciences applications to run optimally on IBM's servers, and more applications are in the pipeline. This is good news for customers who need powerful solutions to improve the efficiency of their pharmaceutical R&D operations."

The second set of Accelrys applications optimized to run on IBM eServer pSeries systems, including the new p690 server code named "Regatta," are RS3, CNX, and HypoGen, HipHop, and Confirm from the Catalyst suite. These additional applications broaden Accelrys' suite of IBM ported applications to a total of ten diversified products with functionalities supporting bioinformatics, cheminformatics, modeling, and analytics. Over the next three quarters of 2002, Accelrys will continue to collaborate with IBM to migrate and optimize the majority of its top life sciences applications on IBM systems.

"We recognize that innovation and efficiency are critical to drug discovery and development and are very pleased to offer an expanded group of Accelrys products on the IBM eServer pSeries ahead of schedule," said Dr. Scott Kahn, general manager and senior vice president of Life Science for Accelrys. "Our successful alliance with IBM and our aggressive timetable enable us to stay a step ahead of our customers' needs and expectations."

Products ported to the IBM platform will initially operate on AIX servers and will be designed to seamlessly integrate into the upcoming Discovery Studio enterprise client-server environment. In addition, Accelrys products that are Discovery Studio enabled will be available on a range of server environments, including AIX and other proprietary versions of UNIX as well as Windows NT and Linux. The product roadmaps have been specifically designed and licensed to facilitate the transition from an isolated workstation environment to a collaborative enterprise computing model, recognizing the need to maintain data integrity, full application access and the ability to scale and deploy high-performance compute resources dynamically.
