Sand Sponsors Awards for Use of IT in Biomedics & Health

In support of SoQibs, the new healthcare informatics association dedicated to promoting the optimal use of IT in biomedics & health, Sand Technology sponsored the awards the association presented at the 9th annual international conference SoQibs is hosting, held for the first time in North America.

SoQibs' mission is to encourage the exchange of scientific information among all who are interested in the role that informatics plays in the healthcare system. Healthcare professionals, researchers, technologists, educators and representatives of the private sector from North America, Europe and Africa attended the JFIM 2002 conference in Quebec City May 6-7. The winners were selected by a jury of peers who examined 22 scientific posters submitted to JFIM 2002, and the awards were presented at a wine & cheese reception hosted by Sand Technology.

JFIM 2002 Honorary president Roger A. Cote BA, MD, MS(Path), DSc (hon), FCAP, FACMI, presented certificates and checks to the teams with the three winning entries:

1st Prize:

Telemonitoring: From realtime analysis to reconstruction by virtual reality, by Jean-Baptiste Lamy (Grenoble, France)

2nd Prize (tie):

Automatic Activity Telemonitoring in an Intelligent Health Habitat , by Gilles Virone, N. Noury, V. Rialle, T. Creuzet (Grenoble, France)

Remote Training on the Functional Autonomy Measuring System, by Joanne Guilbeault, L. Mathieu, C. Dumont, C. Vallieres, M.F. Lafleur (Sherbrooke, Canada)

3rd Prize:

Decision support: asthma management, by Icham Sefion, M. Gailhardou, A. Ennaji (Rouen, France)
