Computers & Processors:i2 Achieves 10.54 Million Raw TPH on Sun Fire 6800Demonstrating scalability and transaction speed for the value chain segment, Sun Microsystems Inc and i2 Technologies reported that the i2 Distributed Order Management solution achieved 10.54 million raw transactions per hour on the Sun Fire 6800 featuring 24, 750Mhz UltraSPARC III CPUs and the Solaris 8 Operating Environment. In the same test conducted at Sun's Enterprise Technology Center in Palo Alto, Calif., 2.15 million orders were processed through the full order life cycle (from initialization to shipment) in a 10-hour day. The test results, based on J2EE components, exhibit the ability of Sun's hardware to scale transactions hosting i2's distributed applications in a controlled environment. These results illustrate how Sun's systems are designed for superior performance and how they can provide a powerful hosting vehicle for i2's distributed applications. "A major concern for customers, especially in areas such as order management and other transaction management and execution areas, is scalability," said Steve Banker, director of supply chain research at ARC Advisory Group. "The results reported by Sun and i2 using Sun's 6800 configuration are impressive." "Customers, no matter what size they are, would benefit from a Sun and i2 solution that is designed to scale with their business," said Doug Kaewert, vice president of Sun Developer Network at Sun Microsystems. "Sun systems are designed to provide superior investment protection, and combined with the robust nature of i2's software, customers can utilize a Sun-i2 distributed order management solution designed to meet their ever-growing, mission-critical transaction requirements." Leveraging J2EE technology-based components, and implementing a Sun Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) architecture, i2 Distributed Order Management is designed to solve the difficult problem of end-to-end order fulfillment through the aggregation, management and brokering of orders across multiple applications, divisions and enterprises. "Through benchmarking exercises such as this, i2 is able to evaluate and improve software quality with the ultimate goal of continually delivering solutions that bring value to our customers," said Dr. Pallab Chatterjee, i2 president, Solutions Operations. "i2 applications can gain computing speed from technology partners like Sun Microsystems. With this solution we intend to set the bar high for anyone entering this market in terms of transaction speed."
