Features - Financial Plays Of The Week:

STRATUS TO RESELL COMMVAULT GALAXY SOFTWARE AND SERVICES

Stratus will resell CommVault Galaxy high-performance software and services for data management and protection through direct and indirect channels. Galaxy software will be sold with the Stratus ftServer family, an Intel processor-based line of fault-tolerant servers for Windows 2000 operating environments.

With CommVault Galaxy software on Stratus servers, customers can easily manage and protect applications and data on heterogeneous fault-tolerant platforms from a centralized browser-based interface. Galaxy also automates backup, recovery and media management seamlessly across all topologies and operating systems, using policy-based management. It enables speedy, granular back up and recovery of Windows file systems and databases, including Oracle, SQL Server, Informix, Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint Portal Server and Lotus Notes.

CommVault Galaxy software is pre-tested and certified for Stratus ftServer systems in LAN, SAN and WAN infrastructures. This winning combination for Microsoft Windows 2000 computing environments offers customers an easy-to-use, global data protection solution that scales to handle multiple terabytes of capacity. The resulting efficiency dramatically reduces storage administration cost, enhances access to application data, and improves backup and recovery flexibility.

"A reliable, high-performance data management and protection solution complements the reliability of the ftServer platform," said David Mazursky, vice president of worldwide professional services for Stratus. "Our new association with CommVault, which is highly respected for product and service excellence in the area of intelligent data back up, strengthens our position as a trusted provider of superior fault-tolerant solutions to customers."

Stratus ftServer systems attack the primary causes of system downtime and data loss-single points of failure, cluster failover time, faulty device drivers, human error, component and software revision incompatibilities, for example -- to keep business online. The inherent reliability of the hardware's faulttolerant design, coupled with unique software-availability features and integrated service technology, aggressively positions Stratus against competitors' solutions where application availability and operational simplicity are important.

In addition to component and subsystem redundancy, Stratus ftServer systems also have processors dedicated to enabling and managing advanced integrated service technology. The company's unique approach to remote 24/7 systems monitoring and servicing over its global Stratus Service Network (SSN) is designed expressly to protect customers' critical applications and operations against downtime and business interruption.

"This agreement is a major stride in our strategic direction to provide customers with the highest level of application and data protection, bar none," said Dave West, CommVault's vice president of business development. "By coupling our reliable, high-performance software and trusted responsive service with Stratus' proven range of continuously available computer platforms, customers have seamless end-to-end protection of their most valuable assets."

CommVault Galaxy benefits include:

  • Simplicity -- "all-in-one," centralized, browser-based interface designed to simplify management, training and installation, as well as provide a single, streamlined view of global data resources. Galaxy Storage Policies lets IT administrators logically manage SAN, NAS & LAN data in complex enterprise networks, spanning Windows and UNIX environments
  • Speed -- high-performance data restoration to business users at the application level, including LAN-free, Server-free and Serverless data protection schemes.
  • Scalability -- unified product; built from the ground up to scale seamlessly in the most popular storage networking environments.
