Qualstar's Q-Link Tape Library Management Tool Ships

Qualstar Corporation, a leading provider of automated tape storage solutions, announced the immediate availability of Q-Link, its remote library management tool.

Q-Link enables administrators to manage multiple, disparate Qualstar tape libraries from one centralized location. Its browser-based interface gives them the power to remotely configure, perform and monitor a wide range of functions, including:

• Media management
• Tape drive status
• E-mail notification
• Firmware updates

In addition, Q-Link's design and its interactive inventory display extend the capabilities of the library's menu system, providing administrators with the benefit of seeing at a glance the status of all cartridge storage locations regardless of where they're located, either across the room via a corporate intranet, or across the world via the Internet.

Q-Link also reduces setting or changing configurations on libraries to a point-and-click task, one that previously required an operator to be physically present at the library site.

"Q-Link enables us to remotely administer our tape library, giving us the capability of doing virtually everything we would do in person, except pulling the plug," said Emil Henry, Manager of Information Systems at the College of Engineering and Computer Science, California State University, Northridge. "It lets us perform the full range of tasks, ranging from cleaning drive heads to moving tapes and checking their status, with greater accuracy and confidence than we've been able to do before. It also allows us to control the library in more detail than what the backup software allows us to do. It's clear that QLink gives us the ability to do our jobs more efficiently, saving time and money in the process."
