LSI Logic Samples Six-Channel Serial ATA RAID To Key OEMs

LSI Logic Corporation., announced availability of production samples of the market's first six-channel I/O processor assisted Serial ATA (SATA) RAID storage adapter to key OEM accounts. LSI Logic is ensuring a viable and interoperable Serial ATA RAID solution by collaborating with leading Serial ATA drive makers on extensive compatibility testing programs. By completing this rigorous development process, customers can be assured that LSI Logic MegaRAID SATA storage adapters and peripherals will support revision 1.0 of the Serial ATA/High Speed Serialized AT Attachment specification. Customers should contact their local LSI Logic sales representative for sampling program details.

The enterprise-class MegaRAID SATA 150-6 features an integrated 64-bit, 66 MHz I/O co-processor that powers LSI Logic's full-featured, high-performance RAID firmware engine with support for RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50. Offering data transfer rates of up to 150 MB per second on each of the adapter's six Serial ATA/150 channels, solution providers can now leverage the performance and reliability of MegaRAID technology coupled with the enhancements offered by the next-generation Serial ATA interface.

"Early adopters of new interconnect technologies have historically relied on LSI Logic for the most advanced and feature-rich product offerings," said Phil Bullinger, vice president and general manager of the LSI Logic RAID Storage Adapters Division. "The MegaRAID SATA 150-6 delivers to leading system builders worldwide a robust RAID solution -- proven across all existing hostbased interconnect technologies." Since early May, key OEM customers and drive manufacturers have tested the MegaRAID SATA 150-6 in their labs, and the results have exceeded expectations.

By participating in thorough compatibility testing, customers can expect the most reliable Serial ATA-based products from LSI Logic. Serial ATA offers system builders several advantages over the parallel ATA physical storage interface, including: easier upgrade of storage devices, point-to-point configuration, hot-plug drive support and improved power management. Support for thinner serial cables -- up to one meter long -- addresses concerns regarding airflow, allowing smaller and more versatile chassis designs. Improved silicon designs offer support for lower voltages, improving device signal integrity and reduced system power dissipation.

LSI Logic is the leading third-party supplier of host-based RAID to the global PC and server markets with nearly two million RAID solutions shipped to OEMs, ODMs, system integrators and resellers worldwide. Powered by a proven firmware engine and common interface across its product lines, LSI Logic services customers with a complete spectrum of PCI-RAID solutions ranging from: highly integrated RAID on motherboard (ROMB) and RAID on Chip (ROC) technologies to high-performance host-based SCSI, Serial ATA and ATA RAID adapters.
