Top Of The News - Storage:BIGLOBE Deploys FalconStor's IPStor For Its Data CenterFalconStor Software Inc., a leading storage networking infrastructure software company, announced that NEC BIGLOBE, a leading provider of hosting services for enterprises, has chosen to deploy IPStor for its data center operations. BIGLOBE selected the NEC iStorage FS100 server, powered by IPStor, to significantly increase its ROI, reduce its TCO, and to leverage the appliance's IP-based high performance storage system with enterprise-class storage services. As price competition intensified in the hosting service industry, BIGLOBE sought equipment offering the same levels of functionality and performance at a more efficient cost. The new solution had to meet BIGLOBE's high availability and business continuity criteria that included active-active failover, storage capacity on demand, connectivity to IP-based SANs, online disk expansion, centralized management, and a comprehensive set of storage services for quick data replication and data recovery. Having met all these requirements, the NEC iStorage servers with IPStor was ultimately selected. "We carefully checked the functions, quality and compatibility before installation, so the installation and setup went smoothly. The biggest advantage was a reduced storage operating cost," said Makoto Yamaguchi, general manager of BIGLOBE's iDC Construction and Operation Division. "This has provided a major benefit to our customers as well as to our company. We plan to expand the use of the new storage system for existing users in addition to new customers in order to expand our hosting business." BIGLOBE offers two types of storage services: IP-SAN and NAS. The IP-SAN service is for storing databases, with the IPStor client installed on the database server performing writing and reading operations through SCSI over IP. The NAS type service is for Web content storage. In this service, the Web server accesses shared Web contents in the storage space using NFS.
