Short Takes - People & Positions:EMC Appoints Storage Veteran Mark Lewis To Management TeamJim Rothnie Named CTO Emeritus EMC Corporation, a world leader in information storage, announced that Mark Lewis, a longtime storage executive and one of the industry's most widely recognized storage technologists, will join the company as Executive vice president of New Ventures and Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Lewis will be responsible for helping to define EMC's technology vision and direction, playing a key role in the technical direction of merger & acquisition activity, and for managing new business opportunities such as the recently launched EMC Centera, the world's first content-addressed storage (CAS) solution. Lewis will report to Joe Tucci, EMC's president and CEO. In a separate news release, EMC also announced the appointment of David Goulden as Executive vice president of Global Marketing and Business Development. EMC also announced that Jim Rothnie, Senior vice president and Chief Technology Officer since 2000 and a member of EMC's executive team since 1995, will retire from his day-to-day role and become CTO Emeritus, continuing to advise EMC on technology issues. Tucci said, "Recognizing new technologies and innovative ideas before the rest of the market has always been an EMC hallmark. Mark brings to EMC a broad range of talent and experience, from his days in engineering and product development at Digital to his work in helping Compaq recognize the importance of storage. Lewis, 40, joins EMC from Hewlett-Packard, where he was most recently vice president of Worldwide Marketing and Solutions for HP's Network Storage Solutions Group. Prior to HP's acquisition of Compaq, Lewis previously served as Vice President and General Manager of Compaq's Enterprise Storage Group, where he led the development of Compaq StorageWorks and built the foundation of Compaq's storage software offerings. Lewis joined Digital Equipment Corporation in 1984, where he helped lead the initial effort to develop the StorageWorks product line and launched new business ventures. Lewis holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Colorado. Lewis also holds eight storage-related patents. Since joining EMC in 1995, Rothnie has made major contributions to the company's most significant and successful developments, including Enterprise Storage, Enterprise Storage Networks, and AutoIS (Automated Information Storage). Since 2001 he also has led the development team responsible for creating the world's first content-addressed storage solution, EMC Centera, introduced in April 2002. Unisys Appoints Veteran Industry Executive Stephen OlyhaUnisys Corporation announced that Stephen Olyha has joined the company as vice president and leader of its global Customer Relationship Management (CRM) practice. Olyha will be responsible for expanding Unisys CRM capabilities worldwide. In addition to Unisys existing suite of consulting services that assist companies in developing unique methods to drive customer loyalty and satisfaction, Olyha will emphasize enterprise integration of customer data and business intelligence, providing a 360-degree view of each customer when implementing CRM solutions. Currently, Unisys CRM practice focuses on two major areas: packaged CRM implementation services, leveraged through strategic consulting partnerships with Siebel Systems, Avaya, Onyx and other leading vendors, and call-center solutions with particular emphasis on multi-channel contact centers. "Steve will bring outstanding strategic capabilities to our CRM practice," said Joe McGrath, president of Unisys Global Industries. "His extensive experience in sales, marketing and CRM consulting will ensure that we provide a continuous flow of innovations and end-user benefits to help our clients gain a rapid return on their CRM investments."
