Features - Enterprise Data Insights:SHELL OIL DEPLOY KALIDO SOFTWARE TO IMPROVE GLOBAL MARKETINGShell Oil Products, the worldwide fuel and lubricants businesses within the Royal Dutch/Shell Group, have launched a global sales and marketing information platform to provide a first-ever, single view of customers and products across the 85 separate operating units. Based on Kalido Group's information integration software, the intelligence system will deliver a detailed insight into sales performance and marketing effectiveness throughout business change. It will also provide consistent global segmentation of information across the entire business without forcing a standardized enterprise resource planning (ERP) structure on the operating units. The new sales and marketing information platform will enable Shell Oil Products (Shell OP) to continuously fine-tune global customer strategies and seize market opportunities quickly. Shell OP already deploy Kalido Group's software, KALIDO(tm) Dynamic Information Warehouse, to integrate disparate financial data from its semi-autonomous operating units to provide an ongoing, global view of business performance. Based on this success, Shell OP have extended its use of KALIDO Warehouse to gain a better understanding of customer, product and channel profitability both on an operating company and global basis. One of the key benefits of the latest KALIDO solution will be its support for Shell OP's global account management initiatives developed in response to the need of multi-national customers for a single point of contact. With the sales and marketing information platform created by the KALIDO software, business units will see a full picture of all of Shell OP's dealings with a customer and its subsidiaries. The KALIDO solution will also provide customer account management teams with detailed perspectives of brand and channel performance. For example, teams can determine margins, volume and proceeds by channel for any product in any country or region. Teams can also assess this information to determine if central marketing initiatives have delivered bottom-line improvements. Prior to the usage of KALIDO software, the Shell OP operating unit structure made global views of business performance difficult to achieve because the necessary information was dispersed throughout numerous local operational systems. The KALIDO solution not only integrates information held within these systems but also provides consistent global segmentation without imposing a new organizational structure on the operational units. Shell OP's move to increase marketing effectiveness is part of its drive to capitalize on opportunities and react to global events faster than the competition. Its integrated approach to information management positions Shell OP as an "Adaptive Enterprise" as defined by INSEAD, the leading European business school. Theodoros Evgeniou of INSEAD, and author of "Building the Adaptive Enterprise," said: "This move greatly facilitates Shell Oil Products advance towards becoming an Adaptive Enterprise. Through achieving visibility of management information at a global level, yet retaining local flexibility, Shell OP will be able to respond quickly to market conditions, providing vital competitive advantage." Jim Smitheman, management information manager for Shell International Petroleum Company Limited, added: "It is a massive task to integrate global data within a business the size and complexity of Shell Oil Products. Using KALIDO Dynamic Information Warehouse, our customer and product data is coded consistently across the globe, giving management a crystal-clear view of performance. This will enable us to assess how well our customer value propositions are delivering on either a business unit or a country-by-country basis." "Shell Oil Products is a forward-looking business with a customer-centric approach," said Chris Worsley, vice president of global marketing, Kalido Ltd. "The latest KALIDO solution for the global sales and marketing information platform will give Shell OP a deeper insight into its customers. This will support its ambition to improve global marketing effectiveness while remaining sensitive to the individual needs of the worldwide operating units."
