TELERAN IMPROVES PUBLIC ACCESS TO TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY

Teleran Technologies, the leading provider of software for managing business intelligence resources, announced that State of Texas Education Agency (TEA) utilizes Teleran's software product, iSight, to monitor and audit public Internet access to TEA information. Supporting over 1.8 million students, the TEA oversees annual educational expenditures of $13 billion.

The Texas Agency provides access to detailed information and comparative statistics on all public schools, educational programs, curriculum and finance in Texas via the TEA Web Portal www.tea.state.tx.us. The TEA Portal was established to address federal and state mandates requiring public access to government information. TEA information is used by students, families, educators, administrators and state agency employees to assess school performance, understand regulations, determine funding requirements and identify overall educational trends across the State.

iSight profiles all access to the IBM DB2 database which supports the TEA Web Portal. Reporting on what information is being accessed and how frequently, iSight documents for the Agency what information is important to their constituents and what information has little value. It also monitors how well the system is performing and assists IT staff in diagnosing and correcting performance bottlenecks. iSight captures usage information right off the network, requiring no database monitors or system level agents that degrade database performance and add administrative burdens. iSight ensures the TEA Portal efficiently services the needs of the citizens of Texas and improves Agency support staff productivity.

"iSight service level reporting enables Agency IT staff to document adherence to mandated information access requirements as well as better anticipate problems before they negatively impact Portal performance," said Chris Doolittle, Teleran's vice president of marketing. "As information demand grows, the Agency needs to keep track of changing user traffic patterns and information requirements to plan for appropriate system capacity and meaningful database content. Texas' use of iSight is confirmation of Teleran's important role in helping both state and federal agencies address mandated requirements to open up information to the public, contractors and suppliers."
