QUANTUM ANNOUNCES AGREEMENT WITH COMPUTER ASSOCIATES

Quantum Corp, a leading provider of data protection and network storage systems, announced an agreement with Computer Associates that boosts the compatibility between each company's high-performance storage solutions. IS/IT customers will benefit from this agreement through the ability to install DLTtape and Super DLTtape drives that are immediately compatible to work with CA's BrightStor Enterprise Backup and BrightStor ARCserve Backup solutions, reducing the time and effort of managing data storage infrastructures.

"Customers simply cannot afford to have their data protection strategies compromised by time- and resource-draining deployments of loosely compatible storage technologies," said Gary McGuire, senior vice president, BrightStor solutions, CA. "That's why the assurance of seamless integration and minimal deployment effort offered by the combination of Quantum's ca smart certified DLTtape and Super DLTtape products and CA's BrightStor Enterprise Backup and BrightStor ARCserve Backup solutions are so valuable to storage buyers."

Under the terms of the agreement, Quantum's newly launched SDLT 320 and the SDLT 220, in addition to the DLT 4000, DLT 7000, and DLT 8000 tape drives have received ca smart certification for CA's BrightStor Enterprise Backup and BrightStor ARCserve Backup software. Customers will benefit as products from both companies are designed to be compatible and integrate seamlessly, out of the box.

The ca smart certification is earned by solution partners who deliver eBusiness value and technical excellence through the integration of their products with CA technologies.

"Every business is faced with the need to effectively manage the explosive growth of information that comes from disparate data sources both internally and externally," said Farid Neema, president, Peripheral Concepts. "The biggest challenge these companies face is the administrative costs associated with the management of multiple storage products from multiple vendors. As a result, IT managers are seeking a more simplified approach to storage management and the agreement between Quantum and Computer Associates allows IT customers a fully integrated, complete back-up and recovery solution."

"IT managers want scalability, more service and support for end-to-end storage solutions," said Andy Grolnick, vice president, Marketing, Quantum's DLTtape Group. "Quantum and Computer Associates have proven they can meet these demands, with generations of exceptional hardware and software products. Under this agreement and through the promotion of the ca smart program, Quantum and Computer Associates will make further strides in developing compatible products that provide exceptional value to our customers."

About DLTtape & Super DLTtape Products

With an installed base of nearly 2 million DLTtape drives in use today, more than 80 million DLTtape media cartridges, and now tens of thousands of Super DLTtape drives shipped to date, DLTtape technology is the de facto standard for backup and archiving of business-critical data. The DLTtape logo ensures media compatibility with the installed base.

The latest generation of Super DLTtape drives is the SDLT 320 drive. The SDLT 320 represents the second major milestone on the Super DLTtape roadmap. Quantum's SDLT 320 delivers 160 GB of native storage and a transfer rate of 16 MB/s. Future generations of Super DLTtape drives will store more than one terabyte of capacity per data cartridge. Like previous generations of DLTtape drives, Super DLTtape products are compatible with all major systems, platforms and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs).
