• LAN-free backup runs the backup traffic over a high-speed SAN, allowing backups to be created without impacting LAN bandwidth.
• Serverless backup goes a step beyond LAN-free backup by incorporating the Storage Networking Industry Association's (SNIA's) Extended Copy command to initiate the process. From there, a Fibre Channel switch and storage router handle the transfer of information to the tape library, leaving the servers free to handle other processes.
• Disk-to-disk backup copies data from one storage array to another, rather than to a tape library. This is an outstanding option for environments that need to restore data in minutes instead of hours or days.
