Avid Technology Selects Infortrend Corporation's ATA RAID

Infortrend Corporation, a subsidiary of Infortrend Technology Ltd, a pioneer in designing high performance RAID controllers, announced that their ATA RAID storage subsystems have been selected by Avid Technology, Inc. for use in their MediaRAID 8 family of storage solutions.

"Infortrend's cost-effective subsystems help us provide RAID protection for under $8/gigabyte. That is hard to beat in today's competitive market. With 1.28 terabytes of storage capacity in a 3U form factor, these subsystems are a compact, yet robust solution for our customers," said Tim Claman, director of Workgroups & Storage for Avid Technology Inc.

Infortrend will supply to Avid subsystems in both rack and tower form factors that provide 1:1 dual stream support on four to eight drives. Avid customers can choose RAID 0 or 5 for either maximum performance and capacity or data protection. When incorporated into the Avid MediaRaid 8, the Avid-exclusive variable-speed, redundant fans supply fault-tolerant cooling and quiet operation. Another feature included in and exclusive to the version of this product supplied to Avid is the thermal monitoring with visual warning and an audible alarm if the temperature rises to the high end of the drive specification. If the temperature continues to elevate, the drive will shut down to protect the data.
