Top Of The News - Hardware:Memorex Announces DVD+RW/+R Super Combo DriveMemorex Products Inc, an industry sales leader of digital optical storage products, today announced that it has partnered with Ricoh to deliver a high performance, high speed seven-in-one drive. The Memorex DVD+RW/+R Internal ReWritable Drive does it all, functioning as a DVD/CD player, supporting all current optical media formats:
The compatible, high speed, high capacity drive provides consumers with a total DVD solution and is strong complement to Memorex's industry-leading blank DVD and CD media. The Memorex DVD+RW/+R Super Combo Drive lets users record up to 4.7 gigabytes of video, data, photo or audio files in less than 30 minutes on DVD+R and rewritable DVD+RW media. The drive also writes to CD-R and high-speed CD-RW media. The DVD+RW/+R format allows changes and additions to DVD+RW video discs created by users without rewriting the entire disc, especially helpful for editing home movies. "With mass confusion regarding the different optical media technologies on the market, consumers deserve a complete drive solution," said Michael Golacinski, president and COO of Memorex. "Our new DVD+RW/+R drive represents the synergy between Ricoh as a premier developer of 'plus' technology, our expanding drive business, and our industry-leading blank media. Working with Ricoh to deliver an internal drive that is compatible with the new DVD 'plus' technology, as well as other widely used CD formats, is a great milestone for both of our companies and the industry as a whole." To perfect DVD and CD writing, Ricoh has created two technologies that are both embedded within the Memorex DVD+RW/+R Super Combo Drive. Ricoh's Lossless Linking and JustLink technologies prevent "buffer underrun errors" that occur with DVD and CD-R/RW writing, respectively. "The 'plus' RW format offers unmatched speed, performance and capacity for rewritable storage," said Tadatoshi Sakamaki, senior vice president of Ricoh. "Just as Memorex is at the top of the blank media market, Ricoh's 'plus' technology stands at the forefront of the drive market." An optimum storage solution for authoring and editing video and audio, or backing up a hard drive, the Memorex DVD+RW/+R Super Combo Drive includes all necessary software and accessories for fast and simple installation. Further creating a total solution, the drive includes Ahead Software's Nero 5.5.8.5 to create or edit audio and data discs, Sonic Solutions' MyDVD and Arcsoft Showbiz to create and edit DVDs, and Cyberlink's PowerDVD to watch DVD movies. Also included are a quick installation guide, comprehensive user's manual, "how to" card, one Memorex DVD+RW disc, one Memorex DVD+R disc, IDE cable, audio cable, mounting screws, Memorex service and support, and a one- year limited warranty. The Memorex DVD+RW/+R Internal ReWritable Drive is available now at retail outlets at a suggested retail price of $379.99.
