ADIC NAMED MARKET SHARE LEADER AGAIN

Advanced Digital Information Corporation, a leader in Intelligent Storage systems, has announced that the company has again been named market leader for the largest segment of the worldwide tape automation market by a leading analyst firm.

Gartner Dataquest's 2002 Tape Cartridge Automation Market Share and Forecast report lists ADIC as the number one market share leader in terms of both revenue and unit shipments for the nearly $1.7 billion market segment for library systems using small form-factor half-inch drives. This segment includes both DLT and LTO technologies, the drive types most commonly used to protect data in open systems networks. ADIC led the segment with more than $300 million in revenue and nearly 32% of units shipped.

"Our research positions ADIC in the number one position both by revenues and shipments in the small form factor half-inch tape cartridge automation segment," said Fara Yale, chief analyst with Gartner Dataquest. "In 2001 this was the largest segment of the worldwide tape cartridge automation market."

The shipment numbers reported include all tape automation products, from desktop autoloaders to the largest enterprise libraries in the world, which use LTO, DLT, or SuperDLT tape drives. Products in this category meet a critical need for the backup and storage of data in open system, client-server installations. This category accounted for nearly 58% of the overall automation market in 2001, and is projected by Gartner Dataquest to remain the fastest-growing segment of the market through 2005.

"ADIC's focus on product innovation and intelligent storage solutions is clearly paying dividends in the market," said Chuck Stonecipher, ADIC president. "To hold the number one market share in the largest and fastest-growing automation segment means that we're delivering exactly the kind of high-performance, flexible storage solutions that IT managers demand for their growing open system data needs. In fact, the fastest-growing part of our business is a market we pioneered -- integrated and intelligent storage networking libraries for SAN environments. With our market-leading products, global network of channel partners and worldwide customer support, we feel we are in an excellent position to continue our leadership."
