Top Of The News - Storage:Fujitsu Announces Volume Production of MAP Series HD DrivesFujitsu Computer Products of America Inc, one of the world's leading suppliers of hard drives and computer peripherals, has announced volume production of its MAP Series hard disk drives, with volume shipments to the channel beginning in September, at CMP's Breakaway XChange Conference August 20-23, 2002 at the San Diego Marriott & Marina in San Diego, California. The MAP Series from Fujitsu consists of three new 10K RPM hard drives featuring capacities of 36, 73, and 147GB. The disk drives incorporate 37.8 Gb/sq. in. technology and are equipped with an 8MB, multi-segmented data buffer combined with a 32-bit-wide internal data path for faster data access. In addition, the new series supports Ultra320 SCSI (320MB/s) interface which boasts new performance and reliability enhancing features such as data packet protocol, quick arbitration and selection, and signal pre-compensation. The MAP drives also support 2Gb/s FC-AL2 interface. In addition to showcasing its latest SCSI, Fibre Channel and Serial-ATA hard disk drive technology, Fujitsu will communicate its vision of a unified solution team through its Partner-Force and Firmware & Compatibility Testing (FACT) Lab programs. Fujitsu designed Partner-Force to promote strong relationships with its solution providers by offering access to various marketing, technical and sales tools. The FACT Lab performs the important task of interoperability testing to verify compatibility between Fujitsu's enterprise and mobile hard drives, customers' systems and third party products. In addition, the FACT Lab has the expertise to perform in-house joint qualification testing and assist with total solution development for Partner-Force members. Breakaway XChange is the largest solution provider event of its kind, attracting more than 1,000 attendees including more than 220 qualified Solution Providers. The event provides a forum where the industry's leading technology vendors and distributors engage in an open dialogue with Solution Providers -- in an effort to better understand the needs of today's enterprise customer. Attendees at the Breakaway XChange will address industry topics including how to add value to current and prospective customers, how to achieve revenue growth with shrinking budgets, and how to maintain a competitive edge.
