Features - Storage Innovations:iSNAP TESTS INTEROPERABILITY AT iSCSI CONSORTIUM PLUGFESTIn a continuing effort to accelerate the design and adoption of Internet Protocol (IP)-based storage networks, Silverback Systems has participated in the interoperability testing of its iSNAP (Storage Network Access Processor) at the iSCSI Consortium's Plugfest, held at the University of New Hampshire's Interoperability Laboratory, July 29 - August 2 (www.iol.unh.edu). The testing, done with a variety of iSCSI-based networking storage vendors, including production systems from Nishan Systems, ensures that the company's iSNAP meets the specifications for interoperability by testing against a wide range of iSCSI implementations. "The advantages of building storage networks based on IP are numerous and compelling. iSCSI is an optimal transport protocol for IP-based storage networks within a company's data communications infrastructure, and interoperability activities such as those at UNH contribute significantly to iSCSI deployment," said Gary Orenstein, director of marketing, Nishan Systems. The iSNAP family provides high performance IP network connectivity and storage network protocol processing. The first product in the family, the iSNAP2100, is suited for a variety of applications in IP-based, Storage Area Networks (SANs) including servers, storage arrays and fabric devices such as virtualization boxes and storage-aware routers, and specific implementations like host bust adapters (HBAs). Silverback Systems Inc, designs and markets iSNAP (storage network access processors) accelerating the adoption of IP storage networking. The company is based in Campbell, CA, with a design center in Rochester, MN. Financial backing has been received from Gemini Israel Fund, JP Morgan Partners, Newbury Ventures, Pitango Venture Capital and U.S. Trust Private Equity Capital.
