ATTO TECHNOLOGY ENTERS INTO OEM AGREEMENT WITH UNISYS

ATTO Technology Inc, a worldwide manufacturer of SCSI and Fibre Channel storage-infrastructure solutions, has announced that it has entered into an OEM agreement with Unisys centered around the 2-Gigabit ATTO Diamond Storage Array and ATTO ExpressPCI FC 3300 host adapters. The addition of these products to Unisys Storage Sentinel provides large-capacity storage and high-performance connectivity from a single-source vendor.

Storage virtualization speeds the allocation of storage by creating open network storage allotment for multi-vendor SAN devices. By doing so, extra storage capacity isn't tied to a server. Instead, it is available for speedy allocation wherever necessary. The ATTO Diamond Storage Array, ExpressPCI FC 3300 host adapter and Unisys Storage Sentinel's virtual storage software combine to provide storage consolidation and storage on demand in a complete virtual storage solution. In addition to simplifying storage management, increasing efficient use of storage capacity and availability, Storage Sentinel can help reduce administrative costs, increase productivity of storage administrators, eliminate downtime and backup windows, and lower total cost of ownership.

The Enterprise-class Diamond Storage Array packs an industry-leading multi-Terabytes of storage into a 3U form factor. This leading-edge technology is built on ATTO's proven core competencies in the SCSI and Fibre Channel storage industries. At the center of ATTO's Diamond Storage Array is its intelligent midplane containing a combination of custom application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), microprocessors, and proprietary software. Developed by ATTO, this technology comprises patent-pending elements that work together to minimize system overhead and maximize data throughput. ATTO's exclusive Aggregated Data Transfer Technology (ADXT) aggregates the performance of individual ATA drives to achieve the high data-transfer rates needed for today's Enterprise-level applications. In addition, ATTO's 2-Gigabit Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) will be deployed in Unisys Storage Sentinel. ATTO HBAs are one of the industry's first to offer both "initiator" and "target" mode capabilities, which provide Unisys with the enhanced performance it needs to move data in and out of its high-end SAN servers as quickly as possible. ATTO's 2-Gigabit optical Fibre Channel FC 3300 host adapter delivers 400 MB/sec. performance in full-duplex-mode and is versatile enough to transfer high-bandwidth data across distances up to 500 meters -- an important feature for widely dispersed storage networks. With ATTO's Advanced Fibre Channel features such as Target Mode support, the fiber optic FC 3300 offers increased performance and versatility in mission-critical Enterprise environments.

The Unisys Storage Sentinel serves as a virtual storage controller, providing storage consolidation and storage-on-demand capabilities for all segments of the Enterprise marketplace. A comprehensive, unified resource management approach, Storage Sentinel supports the entire Enterprise server SAN storage environment, including infrastructure that enables e-business. Unisys customers will be able to add more storage on the fly, and can do so remotely, with the addition of one or more ATTO Diamond Arrays to their SANs.
