XIOtech TEAMS WITH SIEMENS MEDICAL SOLUTIONS HEALTH SERVICES

XIOtech Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Seagate Technology and a storage area network (SAN) pioneer, has announced an alliance with Siemens Medical Solutions Health Services Division to cooperate in the sale of data management and storage systems and collaborate on joint marketing efforts for the healthcare market. XIOtech and Siemens are combining their resources to meet the needs of healthcare organizations requiring efficient data consolidation, central storage, high availability solutions, and improved data management as the industry prepares for current and future regulations, such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

The XIOtech-Siemens agreement combines the global expertise of Siemens Medical Solutions, one of the largest suppliers to the healthcare industry in the world, and XIOtech's longstanding history of storage implementations with top healthcare organizations nationwide. Both companies intend to cooperate in sales, project engineering, system integration, and implementation of joint projects in healthcare facilities.

"Our agreement grows out of the momentous shift happening in the healthcare field over the last few years, where information technology has become a powerful enabler of patient care," said Dan McCormick, vice president of worldwide marketing at XIOtech. "With Siemens and XIOtech, healthcare organizations can continue to evolve and maximize their investment in information technology, which helps to enable more efficient healthcare delivery."

Passed in 1996, one component of HIPAA is designed to protect confidential healthcare information and to allow for secure transmission of patient information. It also identifies compliance guidelines for critical business tasks such as risk analysis, awareness training, audit trail, disaster recovery plans and information access control and encryption. At the same time, the data contained in Hospital Information Systems (HIS) combined with clinical imaging information has been growing and requiring more stringent management. To help customers face this information explosion with proven and reliable data management solutions, XIOtech has teamed with Siemens to provide best-of-breed storage systems and software on a world-class information infrastructure.
