Punk, Ziegel & Company Storage Technology Showcase In NYC

Punk, Ziegel & Company announced its first Technology Showcase to be held on September 17, 2002 at the Peninsula Hotel in Manhattan. The showcase offers technology investors, press and analysts important insight into emerging technologies that could have significant storage solution impact. Attendees will receive essential information and see IP-based storage solutions and InfiniBand solutions; these two additional technologies can complement fibre channel, a leading storage network interconnect.

Punk, Ziegel & Company is bringing together a number of private companies that are working together to show the state-of-the-art of their technologies in both an IP demonstration and an InfiniBand demonstration. The accompanying program is designed to give all the participating companies an opportunity to explain their place in the storage landscape. The IP companies sponsoring the event include Alacritech, Nishan Systems and XIOtech. The InfiniBand companies include Lane15 Software, InfiniCon Systems and Mellanox Technologies. Technology demonstrations will also be included in the schedule.

"Technology investors, analysts and IT decision-makers need a clear view into the state-of-the-art of a given technology in order to assess its relevance," said Steve Berg, Senior Storage Analyst at Punk, Ziegel & Company. "Punk, Ziegel's unique forum will bring together leading companies in the IP-storage and InfiniBand space, and then allow the comparison and contrast of these technologies to one another and to existing solutions."

"Proving out the technology is an important part of a technology's adoption," said Alisa Nessler, CEO and president of Lane15 Software, Inc. "As the leader in InfiniBand management software, we're glad to have the opportunity to demonstrate our software and be the enabler of the InfiniBand demonstrations that will be taking place."

"While IP storage initially was used for networking storage applications between data centers, our customers now have begun deploying it in the data center itself," said John McGraw, CEO at Nishan Systems. "At the Technology Showcase, we will show how Alacritech, XIOtech, and Nishan products work together to network storage both in the data center and around the globe."

Organizations requiring enterprise-class computing using existing equipment and software can benefit from InfiniBand Technology today. InfiniBand, backed by industry leaders Dell, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Microsoft and Sun Microsystems, is a switched 10 Gb/s fabric-based I/O architecture that offers improved server computer I/O subsystem performance, scalability, reliability and flexibility.

Organizations with changing data requirements, especially those requiring data storage security or disaster recovery can benefit from IP storage and iSCSI. The protocol is used on servers, storage devices and gateway devices. First generation iSCSI performance for some host adapters already is comparable to that of Fibre Channel, and even greater performance is expected when vendors begin shipping 10 Gigabit Ethernet iSCSI products.
