DataCore SHOWCASES SANsymphony RUNNING ON InfiniBand

The centerpiece of the showcase was a heterogeneous storage area network (SAN) featuring a next-generation Storage Domain Server running SANsymphony software equipped with both InfiniBand architecture and Fibre Channel interfaces. The demonstration showed how a hybrid SAN can be built incorporating both technologies, allowing customers to pick and choose the connection based on price or performance requirements. Hosts access the storage resources through either InfiniBand architecture or Fibre Channel paths, and are completely unaware of the protocol used to talk to the SAN. As the Internet creates an increased demand for I/O subsystem performance, scalability, reliability and flexibility, a shift to a switched fabric-based I/O architecture will enable customers to meet this demand. The InfiniBand Trade Association developed a specification for a channel-based, switched fabric architecture that provides scalable performance, to meet needs from entry-level to high-end enterprise systems.
