TOWER SEMICONDUCTOR TO ESTABLISH OVERALL SYSTEM FOR DS

EMC2 has announced that Tower Semiconductor, the Israeli chip manufacturer, will establish the infrastructure for organizational data storage, as well as a remote backup site (DRP -- Disaster Recovery Planning) using EMC2 products.

Implemented within 60 days, the project will protect the computing systems of Tower's $1.5 billion FAB 2 fabrication facility.

"Tower stands at the forefront of the semiconductor industry technology, and we are glad to be part of its new FAB foundation," said Joseph Pikel, EMC2 regional manager.

Throughout the project, EMC2 will provide Tower a SAN (Storage Area Network) architecture based solution composed of Symmetrix systems, as well as SRDF (Symmetrix Remote Data Facilities) -- software for data backup enabling complete synchronization between remote sites. Complementing this solution, Celerra, a file server in the NAS domain, and TimeFinder -- software for immediate data recovery, and other software for organizational data storage in heterogeneous environments were installed.

"We searched for a solution to include intelligent systems for data storage and management as well as for data hot-backup, disaster recovery and business continuity," said Yossi Krausz, Director of IT at Tower Semiconductor. "EMC2 provided a suitable solution for the complex setting we need and for the storage of over 16 tera-bytes."

About Tower Semiconductor LTD

Tower Semiconductor Ltd, an independent wafer manufacturer, provides design support, manufacturing and turnkey services for integrated circuits (ICs) on silicon wafers in geometries from 1.0 to 0.18 microns. Tower strategically focuses on advanced non-volatile memory solutions, mixed-signal and CMOS image-sensor technologies. The company is now prototyping 0.18 micron products in its new fabrication facility, Fab 2. When complete, Fab 2 will offer 0.18 micron and below process technologies, produce up to 33,000 200mm wafers per month and employ approximately 1,100 people. Fab 2 features advanced CMOS technology licensed from Toshiba Corporation, as well as foundry-standard technology, which is applicable to digital, mixed-signal, CMOS image-sensor and flash memory processes.
