Top Of The News - Hardware:StoneFly Storage Concentrators Showcased At Intel ForumStoneFly Networks' Storage Concentrators, which combine the functionality of an iSCSI-based storage router, bridge and provisioning manager, were showcased in the Intel Developer Forum Fall 2002 (IDF) Storage Pavilion at the San Jose Convention Center, in San Jose, California. StoneFly's first-to-market Storage Concentrators were featured as part of Intel's demonstration of interoperable storage networking products based on Gigabit Ethernet, iSCSI and 10 Gigabit Ethernet. StoneFly also participated at an Intel press event announcing new Intel storage products on September 11. As a result of StoneFly's firm commitment to broad interoperability, Storage Concentrators seamlessly interoperate with the largest array of host interconnects, back-end storage systems and storage architectures. To that end, StoneFly announced that it has certified the Intel PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapters as fully compatible with Stonefly's complete family of Storage Concentrators. The products running in conjunction provide customers with end-to-end interoperability and optimized performance in iSCSI storage area network (SAN) configurations. As an example of how Storage Concentrators can interoperate with existing legacy storage to achieve increased performance, connectivity, logical volume management and efficient utilization of storage assets, the companies showcased the Intel PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapters and StoneFly's Storage Concentrators at Booth #32 in the Intel Pavilion. StoneFly's Storage Concentrators, the i1000, i1500 and i1500FS, enable companies to quickly and easily turn an IP network into a storage network. StoneFly's simple-to-install, all-in-one IP SAN appliances are specifically designed to reduce the cost and complexity of managing storage assets in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), and departments of large corporations. Installed in a server, the Intel PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter transmits SCSI storage data over native Ethernet networks. Together, the products allow companies to build cost-effective SANs using standard Ethernet infrastructure to lower the total cost of ownership for storage networks. "StoneFly's commitment to multi-vendor interoperability is part of our overall goal of ensuring that IP SAN environments based on Storage Concentrators are compatible with a broad range of SAN storage products, applications and architectures," said Jeffrey Schnabel, vice president of marketing, StoneFly Networks. "With the iSCSI standard now nearing ratification, our mission is to provide all Storage Concentrator customers with a step function reduction in SAN cost and complexity through interoperable, end-to-end solutions for managing heterogeneous storage networks including provisioning and management, and products that offer optimized performance and more efficient centralized back up." StoneFly's Storage Concentrators and Intel's PRO/1000 T IP Storage Adapter Enable IP SAN Functionality with Existing and New Storage Interconnects, and Traditional Fibre Channel SANs.
