GIGA'S STUDY CONFIRMS RAPID ROI OF BMC SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS

BMC Software Inc, a leader in enterprise management, has announced that Giga Information Group, a global independent technology advisory firm, completed a study using their Total Economic Impact (TEI) methodology outlining the potential return on investment (ROI) that enterprises can realize by implementing BMC Software's PATROL Storage Management solutions. According to the study, which gathered its results from interviews with four current customers to create a prototype organization, the deployment of BMC Software's PATROL Storage Management solutions can generate investment payback in less than 17 months, and, over a three-year period, present a total cost savings of more than $3 million for the sample company.

Giga utilized its industry-recognized TEI analysis methodology, which measures the total cost of ownership and quantifies the full impact of a technology investment. Given the increasing sophistication that enterprises have today regarding cost analysis related to IT investments, Giga's TEI methodology offers an effective way for communicating the value of IT initiatives in a common business language. Additional key findings from the study include:

  • Application-centric tools like BMC Software's PATROL Storage Resource Manager can provide significant benefits to organizations, especially in the area of capital cost reduction;
  • PATROL Storage Management solutions offer implementation flexibility, allowing customers to add new productivity and revenue-generating applications in the future; and,
  • PATROL Storage Management product investments carry a low level of risk, a positive ROI and a relatively short time to recoup the investment.

To gather data for the study, Giga interviewed four current customers representing various vertical industries that use BMC Software's PATROL Storage Management solutions. Data obtained from the interviews was used to analyze cost, benefits, flexibility and risk metrics -- the four fundamental elements of TEI -- that reflected the economic impact of each customer's business environment. In addition, Giga created a sample organization for the study that represented a typical midsize enterprise or division of a larger firm with 60 terabytes (TB) of storage online and approximately 50 lobal technology advisory firm that provides objective research, pragmatic advice and personalized consulting. Emphasizing close interaction between analyst and client, Giga enables companies to make better strategic decisions that maximize technology investments and achieve business results.

Founded in 1995, Giga is headquartered in Cambridge, Masssachusetts, and has offices throughout the Americas and Europe -- as well as in Latin America, Asia/Pacific and the Middle East.
