Web Office Unveils Virtual Private Storage Network Solution

Web Office Inc, a leading innovator of intelligent networked storage, has introduced the VPSN 2000 series, a set of products that integrate the security of a VPN with advanced storage management. The 2000 product line is available for purchase at www.webofficenow.com.

The product, a scalable storage and communications server built with standard hardware components, is loaded with patent-pending file transfer, security, and storage management services that enable:

  • Point-and-click access to storage volumes thousands of miles away
  • Gigabytes Across the Globe file transfer ideal not only for storage volumes, but for multimedia delivery, e-learning applications, and software distribution
  • Secure, on-demand tunneling between VPSN products continents apart
  • Authentication and encryption tunable to almost unbreakable levels
  • Management tools offering detailed configuration information, current status, and history of network hardware and software
  • An increase in ease-of-use and manageability that dramatically drives down TCO

"If you are centralizing and consolidating application and storage services for your remote/branch offices, a VPSN is exactly what you need," said Michael Peterson, one of the first analysts briefed on the product, who is also president of Strategic Research Corp, a market research firm specializing in storage networking. "VPSN 2000 is a revolutionary solution that works across the WAN, making remote, distributed storage appear local and centrally managed."

The VPSN 2000 solution is made up of two separate units, the VPSN 2000 ISERVer and the VPSN 2000 ILANd, each of which comes in a standard 1U form factor. The VPSN 2000 ISERVer unit is the brain of the network. Its primary function is to automate system and network management, which dramatically drives down TCO. It enables secure routing and file transfer for other VPSN units behind firewalls, and it maintains a detailed database monitoring the current health, configuration, capacity, and usage of every other VPSN unit on the network.

The VPSN 2000 ILANd unit enables secure tunneling and file transfer for remote offices. It can also serve as a file server for remote offices just getting started: Up to 7 PCs can connect directly to the back of a gateway, and each gateway includes a built-in firewall.

"The VPSN 2000 solution has reduced deployment costs for our clients by more than 57 percent in each server location," enthuses David Duncan, retail automation consultant at Networking Technologies Resource Center (NTRC), a systems integration shop. "Most NAS boxes can't communicate with each other -- but Web Office products do, and that enables us to transfer, store, and access data quickly between multiple retail locations." With built-in monitoring capabilities, he adds, the VPSN products allow him to view almost everything happening on his network in near real-time.

Current promotional pricing for a VPSN 2000 ISERVer begins at $2500; for a VPSN 2000 ILANd, $1800. The company also offers an IPSec product, the VPSN(TM) 3000 IPSec series, as well as professional services for designing and integrating custom projects.
