Short Takes - People & Positions:

Janpieter Scheerder Joins LiveVault Advisory Board

LiveVault Corporation, a leading provider of fully managed online backup and recovery services, has announced that former Sun Microsystems Network Storage Group president Janpieter Scheerder has joined the company's board of advisors. Scheerder is one of the best known and highly regarded technology industry executives, with a background ranging from operating systems to groundbreaking storage systems. He brings extensive expertise to LiveVault at a time when the company is experiencing enormous growth in demand for its online backup and recovery services. In the past year, the amount of customer data being protected by LiveVault has increased more than tenfold.

"We're excited to have Janpieter join LiveVault," said Bob Cramer, president and CEO of LiveVault. "His insight will be invaluable in ensuring our continued success in building our business. We plan to fully capitalize on Janpieter's broad experience as we pursue the enormous online data protection and disaster recovery market opportunity."

Scheerder has a 25-year industry record of successfully leading the development and marketing of software, networking and storage systems. He retired in 2001 after a decade at Sun Microsystems where he was most recently president of Sun's Network Storage Group. Previously, Scheerder was president of SunSoft, where he was responsible for the development, marketing and sales of Sun's software products, including Solaris.

Prior to his Sun tenure, Scheerder spent 15 years at Data General in various sales, marketing and engineering positions. He was responsible for the development of the first AViiON and CLARiiON RAID systems, which were breakthroughs in high-performance storage technology. Scheerder holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from HTS UTRECHT in Holland.

"LiveVault has exactly the right set of skills and technologies needed to capture the demand for distributed backup and recovery," said Scheerder. "With the widespread use of smaller, networked servers and storage devices, traditional backup and recovery methods will not be sufficient."

LiveVault's Online Backup & Recovery Service provides critical data protection to small- and medium-sized businesses, as well as remote locations of larger enterprises. LiveVault allows these companies to automatically back up their data to a secure, off-site Iron Mountain facility, where it can be quickly and easily restored in the event of human error, system failure, virus attack or disaster.

Earlier this year, LiveVault announced $8 million in equity financing, which was led by Matrix Partners and Atlas Venture.

LiveVault is available through its network of sales partners, including Iron Mountain, HP and others. For more information, please visit www.livevault.com, contact sales@livevault.com or call 800-638-5518.
