Features - Enterprise Data Insights:QUEST STANDARDIZES ON EMC AUTOMATED NETWORKED STORAGEEMC Corporation has announced that Quest Diagnostics Incorporated, a leading provider of diagnostic testing, information and services, has standardized on EMC automated networked storage to improve the quality and accuracy of medical-testing services through more reliable, efficient and faster sharing of vital information. Gerald C. Marrone, Quest Diagnostics' senior vice president, Administration and CIO, said, "Every morning, several hundred thousand people wake up waiting to hear from their physicians about the results of tests run by our company. It's an awesome responsibility to ensure those test results are delivered quickly and accurately. Reliable, speedy and continuous access to information is critical to the quality of our test results, which is why we have chosen EMC networked storage. Our EMC infrastructure has shaved hours off of processing certain tasks, made information sharing more seamless and reliable, and lowered the cost of managing a complex and growing infrastructure." Quest Diagnostics' EMC storage area networks (SANs) provide centralized storage to all of Quest's critical applications including laboratory information systems (LIS), Microsoft Exchange and PeopleSoft Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) for billing and finance. Based in Teterboro, NJ, Quest Diagnostics has implemented the EMC ControlCenter family of products, including SAN Manager, for consolidated, comprehensive management of their information. In addition, EMC's data protection solutions have helped Quest Diagnostics advance its ongoing mission to make information and tests more accessible. EMC's EDM and TimeFinder solutions have virtually eliminated the need to bring the company's systems down for back up and recovery and have made the entire process more efficient and automated. As a result, Quest Diagnostics is able to perform backups more frequently, allowing the company to provide critical information when necessary and with enhanced business continuity capabilities. EMC Global Services consultants worked with Quest Diagnostics to design and implement a 52-terabyte SAN based on EMC Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems and Connectrix Fibre Channel switches. EMC ControlCenter and SAN Manager provide a centralized view of the SAN and allow Quest Diagnostic to better manage its wide range of computing platforms, including Compaq Windows NT, HP-UX, HP-MPE and Digital OpenVMS. Mark Lewis, EMC Executive vice president and Chief Technology Officer, said, "Quest Diagnostics' outstanding success in medical testing is the result of their relentless focus on quality and development of innovative, predictive and diagnostic tests. The 250 million tests that Quest Diagnostics runs each year have created a vast, complex constellation of data points that must be managed, protected and shared. Only EMC offers the high performance, reliability and advanced management to meet the demanding requirements of Quest Diagnostics' growing business infrastructure."
