Imation Launches New Travan 40GB Data Cartridge

Imation Corp, a worldwide leader in data storage and information management, has announced the wide availability of its Travan40GB data cartridges. Specifically designed for entry-level servers and workstations, Imation Travan 40GB data cartridges offer 20GB native and up to 40GB compressed storage capacity, and a 4MB/sec transfer rate.

Compatible with all internal and external Travan 40 drives from Seagate and IBM, Imation's Travan 40GB data cartridges are the seventh generation of Travan data cartridge technology. Imation began shipping Travan 40GB data cartridges to OEMs earlier this summer to support the Travan 40 drive launch. Travan 40 drives are currently offered as a cost-effective tape storage option for the IBM xSeries and Dell PowerEdge server lines. Imation's proprietary backcoating protects the tape surface from airborne debris, ensuring greater protection for business critical data.

"Travan technology is the best value and one of the most reliable backup and archive solutions for entry level server environments," said Frank Russomanno, president, Imation Data Storage and Information Management. "With its solid heritage of affordability, reliability, scalability and performance, Travan technology is quickly becoming the preferred tape backup system for workstations and servers designed for small and medium sized businesses."

Based on linear recording, Travan technology represents a more efficient cartridge and drive design that reduces tape stress, ensures data integrity and increases drive and cartridge reliability. Imation launched Travan technology in 1995; since that time, more than 12 million drives have been shipped worldwide. In cooperation with Seagate, one of Imation's original drive partners for the introduction of Travan technology, Imation continues to expand the technology to meet the needs of businesses requiring cost-efficient and reliable network tape storage.

Imation has been manufacturing tape storage products to the most exacting quality standards for 50 years. Data center managers, IT professionals and computer users look to Imation for the proven quality, reliability and performance they need to manage, store and secure their data. Imation's full portfolio of removable storage for the entry-level and mid-range server market include: Travan, SLR, AIT 2 (Advanced Intelligent Tape), AIT 3, DLTtape, Super DLTtape, LTO Ultrium, 4mm DDS, 8mm data cartridges and recordable CD and DVD media.
