Plasmon Announces New Enterprise DVD Libraries

Plasmon, a leading manufacturer of automated data storage solutions, recently announced the introduction of its new Enterprise D family of DVD libraries -- the highest capacity professional grade DVD solutions in the industry.

The new Enterprise D-Series libraries are available in multiple configurations and models, including the D875, D1525 and D2175. With slot counts ranging from 750 to 2175 and capacities from 8.2TB to 20.4TB, the Enterprise D-Series are among the largest DVD libraries in the world. These aggressively priced enterprise level libraries, starting under $22,000, provide an unparalleled value in storage cost per GB within a small footprint providing up to 2TB per square foot of floor space.

Leveraging the high performance design and reliability of Plasmon's popular G-Series Magneto-Optical libraries, the new Enterprise D-Series provides durable robotics and modular scalability in a professional grade, large capacity DVD storage solution.

"DVD has become a technology of choice for many cost-conscious enterprise archiving environments. Reliability, higher capacities and data availability are key factors in the decision making process for these customers", said Robert Clark, executive vice president of Sales and Marketing for Plasmon USA. "The new Enterprise D-Series delivers high capacity dependable DVD storage technology at an affordable price."

"One of the key trends for growth in the DVD optical automation market is the customer demand for higher capacities," said Wolfgang Schlichting, Research Manager for Removable Storage for IDC. "Plasmon's Enterprise D-Series libraries address this customer demand by delivering higher DVD library capacities. These libraries target the fast-growing medical application and email storage solutions markets," he added.

"Both DVD-RAM and DVD-R are supported within the same unit providing flexibility to individual customer data requirements," said Shawn Klein, Director of Optical Product Marketing. "The new Enterprise D-Series scales from 8 Terabytes to over 20 Terabytes with simple field upgrades allowing customers to maximize their return on investment."

The Enterprise D libraries are featured at the Europe at the Storage Expo in Birmingham England on October 16-17, and the Forum Stockage in Paris France October 16-18. General Availability of Enterprise D is planned for the first week in December 2002.

Support for the new Enterprise D-Series libraries from major Independent Software Vendors (ISV's) and key partners is already underway including support from ADIC, Bakbone, Legato Systems, PoINT Software, Siemens Medical, and VERITAS.
