The NEC S1200 storage solution for the FT Series includes hardware and software elements that integrate up to 2 Terabytes of continuous processing, high-performance expanded storage capacity for the NEC Solutions line of fault tolerant servers, which deliver 99.999% availability in Microsoft Windows environments.

The NEC Solutions S1200 direct-attach Fibre Channel storage technology combined with the award-winning NEC Express5800/ft fault tolerant servers provide a fully integrated fault tolerant solution with continuous processing power and storage capacity that can address almost any mission-critical application for mid- and enterprise-markets. Email, database management, security systems, emergency services, financial services and telecommunications are just some of the applications currently served by fault tolerant technology from NEC Solutions America.

Like the NEC Solutions' fault tolerant servers, the NEC S1200 uses industry standard components to ensure set-up, maintenance, and repair are simple and cost-effective. Further simplifying the server/storage offering is NEC Solutions' software management package, which integrates seamlessly with the server management software and with other storage management applications, including Veritas Volume Manager.

Specifications

Designed with the same level of availability as the FT Server Series, the NEC S1200 Disk Array storage unit is equipped with complete redundancy of all vital components including Hardware RAID Processing, Fibre Channel connectivity and cache memory. The unit also configured with:

• Two, 2-gigabyte Fibre Channel ports for host and disk interface
• Fully redundant power, fans, battery back-up, storage processors, cables
• Support for up to three hot spare disk drives.

Users can order the storage device with hard disk drive capacities from 3 to 30 hard disk drive (HDD) modules, depending on the amount of storage required for the high availability application, and with support for RAID levels: -0, -1, -5, or -10 (+).

Additional NEC Storage Options

NEC Solutions also provides users with the option of an NEC Disk Expansion Unit (DEU) for every fault tolerant server. The DEU, announced six months ago, offers up to 1 Terabyte of SCSI-based external storage expansion with simple set-up and management. The NEC DEU is perfect for mission critical applications that don't require the intense storage demands of many of today's Fibre Channel based storage devices.

Pricing and Availability

The NEC S1200 will be sold with the NEC Express5800/320La fault tolerant servers. Both server and storage systems are available through NEC Solutions America. The NEC S1200 storage systems will be available starting at an expected price of $19,999 as of Oct.14, 2002.
