Pacific Digital/NASBA Promote Tagged Command Queuing

Pacific Digital Corporation has teamed with NASBA (the Association of System Builders and Integrators) to promote enterprise ATA storage with tagged command queuing to the system builder and integrator channel. An associate NASBA partner, Pacific Digital is the developer of the DiscStaQ, the first enterprise ATA controller with tagged command queuing.

"NASBA's research indicates that the use of ATA in the enterprise is growing," said Robert Danese, NASBA's executive director. "Feedback from our strategic vendor supporters revealed the same: system builders require the ability to deliver SCSI-level performance at IDE price points. The Pacific Digital DiscStaQ controller with tagged command queuing support for IBM's "Tag 'n Seek" Deskstar drives make an attractive alternative for builders, allowing the use of cost-effective ATA drives in performance-sensitive enterprise platforms. It was a natural choice for us to endorse them."

"NASBA is the perfect partner for promoting enterprise ATA," said Robert Horton, marketing director of Pacific Digital's Advanced Product Division. "We recognize the tremendous influence system builders and integrators have over users' purchasing decisions, and we have to keep them up-to-date on our products and programs. NASBA's communication and education programs will benefit members and their customers as we move forward."

"Pacific Digital has extended the reach of ATA into the enterprise with the groundbreaking performance that the system builder and integrator channel is seeking," Horton continued. "System builders of enterprise platforms can now implement ATA with Pacific Digital's revolutionary DiscStaQ controller in conjunction with IBM "Tag 'n Seek" Deskstar drives to achieve the highest ATA benchmarks in the Server industry."

In entry-level server ATA platforms, the DiscStaQ controller delivers performance results comparable to traditional enterprise environments using SCSI interfaces, providing a high-performance alternative to expensive server hard drives. Based on the industry-standard IOMeter benchmark, the performance boost is nearly three times the throughput of competing 7200 RPM ATA server configurations, and can exceed the throughput of 10,000 RPM U160 SCSI in streaming conditions. This translates into higher performance for high-end system builders and integrators upgrading or installing new ATA devices.

DiscStaQ's automatic DMA (ADMA) technology excels in systems that have many outstanding disk I/O tasks to manage, making it ideal for enterprise servers. DiscStaQ provides relief to the system CPU in the handling of these tasks, providing SCSI-like performance. Using ADMA command chaining, the DiscStaQ host controller offloads host interrupt processing, improves bus utilization and enhances data transfer rates.
