NETREON ADOPTS EMULEX HBAnyware CENTRALIZED MGMT SUITE

Emulex Corp, one of the world's leading suppliers of storage networking host bus adapters (HBAs), and Netreon Inc have announced a collaboration to incorporate support for Emulex's recently announced HBAnyware management suite into Netreon's SANexec Designer solution.

The Netreon SANexec Designer solution is integrating full support for HBAnyware to streamline the discovery and management of Emulex host bus adapters across multiple operating systems and the servers in which they operate. Netreon will be showcasing its SANexec Designer solution, including Emulex's HBAnyware functionality, at Storage Networking World Fall 2002 at the Renaissance Orlando Resort, Orlando, Fla., Oct. 28-29, 2002, Exhibit #C9.

Emulex's HBAnyware technology provides full visibility to the SAN, enabling dynamic access to host associations, port attributes, link status and discovery information. HBAnyware is driver-based and uses in-band, industry standard protocols, enabling full support for heterogeneous SANs without the need for remote agent software.

Storage professionals will now be able to use Netreon's SANexec Designer to discover more detailed information about the hosts, as well as their relationship to the storage area network. This functionality allows for more efficient and powerful storage planning and deployment.

"Utilizing HBAnyware APIs, companies like Netreon can enhance their applications and take full advantage of the intelligence at the end points of the SAN. Netreon customers now have more control of their environment throughout the process of SAN design, deployment and administration," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of Worldwide Marketing, Emulex.

"Netreon's SANexec Designer combines a flexible tool with a sophisticated database that enables end users to implement complex, interoperable SANs."

"Customers want to have a quick, complete view of their environments to document what they have, and to use as a starting point for changes. Emulex has taken the lead by offering a suite of capabilities that provides a complete view of the entire storage network," said Edward Cooper, Netreon vice president of marketing.

"Utilizing Emulex's extensions to the industry standard common HBA API made it simple for Netreon to implement support for HBAnyware. This enables SANexec Designer to present a more comprehensive view of the host environments for storage administrators."

Netreon SANexec Designer

From conception to deployment, SANexec Designer transforms the disjointed steps of SAN planning into a streamlined process that removes complexity and insures smooth installation and deployment.

SANexec Designer represents not only the visual layout of the SAN but also the physical and logical properties of every device in the SAN fabric. SANexec Designer understands the various levels of interplay between SAN components and can validate a design by matching up the actual device properties with the rules and interoperability matrices included in the application.

Creating or copying a SAN layout in SANexec Designer actually develops a database of storage entities and their associated properties. The properties associated with these devices include all of their physical and logical attributes including GBIC type, IP address, firmware version and zoning type and membership. SANexec Designer can use this information to check their configuration, their connectivity, their relationships and their compatibility.

About HBAnyware

Emulex's HBAnyware is a centralized HBA management suite that dramatically simplifies SAN management and lowers total cost of ownership. HBAnyware incorporates driver-based technology to enable complete management of Emulex HBAs and the ability to upgrade firmware anywhere in a Fibre Channel or iSCSI SAN from a single console.

Emulex's HBAnyware complements third-party management applications and enables cost-effective and scalable management that is critical to the efficient operation of enterprise-class SANs.

Additionally, HBAnyware leverages Emulex's unique HBA architectural capabilities including firmware upgradeability and driver compatibility across product generations to further reduce planned downtime and improve IT management productivity.

The Emulex Family of Host Bus Adapters

The Emulex family of HBAs offers high performance, standards-based connectivity solutions for both Fibre Channel and Internet protocol (IP) storage networking environments. Emulex host bus adapters provide a unique combination of features required for mission-critical enterprise environments that deliver reliability, high bandwidth, server CPU offload, low latency and scalable connectivity.

Emulex HBAs also offer a unique driver architecture that enables compatibility of a single operating system driver across Emulex's entire product line and a firmware-based architecture. These features help to lower the customer's total cost of ownership and reduce management complexity, while enabling a seamless migration path to next generation technologies.

Emulex LightPulse family of Fibre Channel HBAs offers full fabric support, high data integrity, full-duplex operation, data buffering for up to 100km of cabling and support for all Fibre Channel topologies.

The Emulex LightPulse family of Fibre Channel products includes the 2Gb/s LP9802 and LP982 PCI-X HBAs, the LP9002L and LP952L PCI HBAs, the LP9002C CompactPCI HBA, the LP9002S SBus-based HBA and the market-leading LP8000.

The Emulex family of IP-based storage networking host bus adapters includes the GN9000/SI iSCSI host bus adapter and the GN9000/VI VI/IP host bus adapter. The Emulex GN9000/SI is designed to provide the high performance iSCSI connectivity over gigabit Ethernet for PCI-based systems.

The Emulex GN9000/VI VI/IP HBA enables network attached storage (NAS) appliances and hosts to exchange file system data over IP networks, while gaining the high throughput, low latency and reduced CPU overhead benefits of the virtual interface (VI) architecture.
