New Rodin Cross-Platform Data Sourcing Module

Coglin Mill announces the new Cross-Platform Data Sourcing Module for its RODIN Data Asset Management solution. The new module empowers users to integrate data from non-DB2/400 sources into data warehouses, data marts and operational data stores created with RODIN.

The new module provides direct connection to most commercially available remote source databases, including DB2 UDB for Unix and Windows, DB2/390, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Informix and Sybase, as well as mainframe structures such as IMS, Adabas and VSAM. Users may choose to connect directly to these sources in real-time while the extract process is running, or retrieve and stage a local copy of a table.

"The new Cross-Platform Data Sourcing module permits rapid integration of data across the enterprise by providing fast and easy access to all legacy sources," says Alan Jordan, Coglin Mill vice president of Development. "Performance is significantly faster than other data sourcing technologies, including ODBC."

"Over the years, as companies have automated business processes, they have created islands of information. Our new module is designed to consolidate data from those islands into a central repository," Jordan explains. "This is especially important today as organizations try to pull together data from across the enterprise for financial reporting, analysis of historical patterns, prediction of business trends and cycles, and improved customer service."

For IT departments, the module removes the need for licensing and learning other middleware products. Moreover, by making it possible to consolidate the data warehouse and/or operational data store onto the iSeries platform, the IT department also benefits from the superior reliability, scalability and security which are the hallmarks of IBM s eServer iSeries systems.

Availability & Pricing

The new Cross-Platform Data Sourcing module will be available in December 2002. License fees begin at $10,000 plus $5,000 for each database source connector (i.e., for MS SQL Server, Oracle, etc.).

About RODIN and Coglin Mill

A vital business intelligence technology, RODIN (row-dan) is appropriately named after the French sculptor whose "Thinker" statue is universally admired. The RODIN Data Asset Management solution is used for data integration and data warehousing by organizations that need to turn data from operational systems (such as ERP, Financials, SCM, and homegrown applications) into meaningful and actionable business knowledge. In a recent benchmark on a 32-CPU i890, RODIN achieved the industry s fastest data warehouse loading rate ever--on any platform--of up to 625 million rows per hour.

Coglin Mill's roots in software development run deep, with its first application in 1980 for the IBM System/38. Today, Coglin Mill's customer base includes some of the world's best-known companies. One of the world's largest financial institutions is rolling out RODIN worldwide to support its CRM initiatives. An IBM Business Partner since 1987, Coglin Mill is an advanced-level member of IBM s PartnerWorld for Developers program. Coglin Mill's senior management and technical staff speak on data integration and data warehousing at various industry events including the semi-annual COMMON user group conference.
