Features - Financial Plays Of The Week:INTRANSA RINGS IN THE NEW YEAR WITH AN ADDITIONAL $6 MILLIONIntransa, a privately-held IP storage company focused on developing simple, scalable and affordable digital information storage and access solutions, announced recently that it has secured an additional $6 million in venture capital financing. Existing investors, Advanced Technology Ventures, Sofinnova Ventures, Sofinnova Partners, US Venture Partners, and 3Com were joined by other smaller investors in Intransa's third round of funding, which brings the company's total funding to $33 million to date. As Intransa prepares to introduce its first network storage product in 2003, the company continues to grow and invest in developing storage solutions designed to simplify the way organizations store, access and manage information at a fraction of the cost of existing alternatives. "Our employees have worked hard to develop a product that not only has our investors excited, but also has our partners and potential customers eagerly awaiting its arrival," said Alan Kessler, Intransa president and CEO. "Intransa's solution offers a simply smarter way of doing network storage -- one that is smart, intuitive and affordable, offering information technology organizations the ability to accomplish much more with existing or fewer resources." To-date, Intransa has used its funding to finance the development of its forthcoming network storage product and has built a first-class management and technical team. In 2003, Intransa expects to put the funding towards increased marketing and sales programs and towards building the company's customer service solutions as it prepares to launch its first product. "Intransa's IP storage solution is expected to make an impact on the network storage market by fundamentally changing the way enterprises solve their data storage and information management issues," said Robert Carr, managing director at Sofinnova Ventures. "We are thrilled with the progress the company has made during the past year in preparing for the launch of its first product and are excited to continue our involvement." About IntransaIntransa, with headquarters in San Jose, California, is developing intelligent storage solutions and technologies to radically reduce the complexity of workgroup through enterprise level networked storage solutions. Based on advanced technology that leverages the cost and performance advantage of Ethernet, Intransa's products will enable a new generation of high performance, network scalable storage services.
