3PAR Demonstrates Solid Momentum In Utility Storage Space

3PAR, a leading provider of Utility Storage, recently reported strong, steady order growth since the last business update in October, www.3pardata.com/news/pressrel/101402.html, more than doubling its customer base. The company has also successfully established new relationships with world-class system integrators and corporations like HP, which have already yielded incremental revenue to 3PAR. Lastly, the company has demonstrated storage system leadership with enhanced SPC-1 benchmark results and Storage Magazine's Product of the Year Award.

Sales Momentum Mounting

Despite continued downward pressure on IT spending, 3PAR demonstrated solid sales momentum, acquiring new customers at a steady pace. To date, 3PAR has reported 13 orders for its Utility Storage servers, with availability of 3PAR's product announced just four months ago. These sales represent penetration in new customer accounts, significant repeat business, and deployment of scores of terabytes in mission-critical datacenters.

A number of new customers chose 3PAR during the past quarter that include a retail services solution provider, a leading-edge bio-pharmaceutical company, and a top video streaming services organization. 3PAR's international partners continued to make strides last quarter with a substantial sale to a large Japanese government agency. Additionally, customer enthusiasm drove strong repeat business from customers like VERITAS Software. American International Group (AIG) Inc, the largest US-based international insurance organization, and Merrill Lynch, one of the world's leading financial management and advisory companies, have both purchased 3PAR Utility Storage systems. These two Fortune 50 financial services companies were a part of the 3PAR beta program last year.

Partners Reaping Rewards

Partnerships announced last month between 3PAR and systems integrators Corporate Technologies, Inc. and Advanced Systems Group have already produced positive results. 3PAR and Corporate Technologies successfully implemented one of 3PAR's largest storage servers, a 3PAR InServ S800, within a high-growth bio-pharmaceutical company. Faced with highly unpredictable demands, the customer determined that only 3PAR's architecture, ease of use, and scalability could satisfy their requirements.

"All of us at Corporate Technologies are encouraged by successfully completing our first 3PAR project in such a short period of time," said Harry Kasparian, president and CEO of Corporate Technologies. "The strong marketplace demand we see for the concept of Utility Storage is very exciting."

3PAR has also launched new relationships with Alliance Partners HP, Emulex, and QLogic. 3PAR is teaming with these companies to ensure that the combined technologies work seamlessly together in real customer environments. 3PAR tested and approved product support has expanded to include HP server platforms (running HP-UX, Tru64 Unix, Windows, and Linux), Emulex host bus adapters, and QLogic host bus adapters. Showcasing Leadership

In the last quarter, 3PAR also posted its second SPC Benchmark-1 result, complementing its prior result that set a world performance record. Using the same 3PAR InServ model, this second result showcased a cost effective entry point with a result of 12,905.6 SPC-1 IOPS and SPC-1 Price-Performance of $19.73/SPC-1 IOPS, at a total ASU capacity of 896 GBs (Data Protection level of Mirrored). Taken together, the results demonstrate how business can start a major storage consolidation project cost-effectively with "just enough storage" and then scale seamlessly online within the 3PAR platform to complete the consolidation over time. 3PAR also achieved a major milestone as a SearchStorage.com and Storage Magazine Product of the Year Award winner. 3PAR took the bronze medal in a crowded "Disk and Disk Subsystems" category. 3PAR out-classed a number of established storage players and was the only Utility Storage system selected.
